If you are doubting the OP,i'll advise you go check his name in the Mathematics department graduating list pasted at the rear wing of Unilorin auditorium. He is the first on the list and the only first class student with a matriculation number starting with '09'(his year of entry into the school)!
Come on guys, there are a lot of people with rough beginnings; who overcame their failure and became the best in their field through hardwork and discipline! OP is a good example.
Never look down on people,be nice to everyone that come your way. Most importantly, don't be too quick to condemn; but never stop seeking for the truth!
@OP..Only FEW people can help you on this forum. What most members do is to condemn and find faults! I'll advise you check out T22 at "Total Oil and gas workers" thread. The guy is the most intelligent and yet humble person i have ever met online!

Thank you for the clarification. I learnt the last set finished July.

Often times, we try mixing the bitter truth with condemnation when no one gives a d**n about your personal (real) life. The OP has not made so many posts yet so his history is not hard to even dig through.

I'd be shocked if writing good english is seen as 'bad belle' for a supposed graduate of a higher institution, looking for excuses will be a camouflage of deception sincerely. There's another post where someone here told us not to expect any good english language from UNILORIN maths guys.

Don't just jump in the bandwagon of "everybody join" as espoused in the other thread. If they don't criticise you (rightly/wrongly so), you'd live in the fallacy of near-perfection.

I don't wanna start my own super story series on bad beginnings, first class stories etc that I also know personally but don't forget, first impression does count. It's not really everyone's business to know your personal history (which I strongly recommend not) on online forums. It's what you put to the table that's dissected.

Whatever the case, no one can shove his/her advice down the throat of anyone. The responsibilty lies on any adult to separate the wheat from the chaff.

i'm just impressed that he set himself a goal (as far back as 2010) and achieved it.

not to talk of coming back here ...

i'd have been more impressed if he was in 100L at that time.

Super story series indeed! Going through the OP's posts without being sentimental, you will tend to see the coherence that exists therein.I quite agree that first impression matters a lot in life and I had advised the OP in one of his threads to work on that. But bros, despite admiring your writing style,i wish to say that your earlier post has undertones of negative criticism, condemnation and outright disbelief! These aforementioned attributes of your post are more destructive than being constructive, hence undermining its beneficial purpose.
Negative criticism and fault findings in the name of advice and "pull up" are common scenarios on Nairaland. We must accept the fact that we never became the "geniuses" we are today overnight!
Re: Pls Can I Work In Telecom Or Oil Company With Bsc In Mathematics by Mustay(m): 8:08am On Aug 15, 2012
Bros, if you know me personally, pretty much do not care (if you know what I mean #NotBeingRude)!!! I don't (or try not to) fall victim to PREJUDICE but one disadvantage I know of writing is the tendency to be miscontrued. I should've added a caveat to that post of mine but you see, as far as my conscience is clear, there's nothing I can do to 'prove' myself.

I tried not to respond to your last post (so you don't take it personal too) especially when I remember you were in the other thread that made some call his 'class' to doubt.

Judging from his IJMB in 2009 et al, I deduced that he could've passed out this year. Getting admitted in '09 should make you a 300L student save for DE.

You see, don't always see questioning or fact-finding as PHD (Pull Him/Her Down) or 'whining'; and even when you suspect that's the case, act maturely behind the device - at the end the fellow makes a fool outta him/herself.

Apologies if my motives have been seen as sinister; I'm a user of the IGNORE APP if I know I got nothing tangible to contribute to someone's enquiry, so enough digression, the poster indeed graduated with a 1st class. Moderator would do well to refer him to the O&G thread.

All the same, I don't like us decieving ourselves. When a thread is opened, different issues emanate from it (OP's other thread) and members discuss on this. Am not proud to see a graduate making a 'mockery' (for lack of a better word) of our educational system. The career section expects some 'generally accepted posting standards'.
Peace

Yes you can! You will have to apply the way you understand analytically to the fields you want to specialise in. It would not be "out-of-the-box" straight fit-in, so to tackle this problem, you will have to take some professional certifications and then improve on it with your intellect achieved from your BSc. For instance, I will be helping a friend of mine with a Math degree to transition into the Oil & Gas sector in a few months. In my friends case, starting up will be as a designer and time goes by, when the rudiments have been understood and mastered, an engineering position can be applied for. This is after certain certifications have been taken and the appropriate professional experience has been acquired and credibility earned.

The telecommunication industry is a lot easier, though there will be a lot to get acquainted with as you rise. The Oil & Gas industry is very liberal about their trainings than any other industry I know. You will learn on the job too as you work your way up.

I don't know how people reflect on degrees in terms of certain job descriptions in the region you live in. An employee referral will do you much help.

All the best!
