Football. A game we all love, a game that binds us together despite our ethnic differences. Sadly, this game has sometimes been marred by violence, perpetrated by fans who could not control their emotions.

Football belongs to all of us. We should protect it, nurture and develop it. We have the potential to be the best amongst the best; if only we play according to the rules.

Say no to violence at match centres! Do not beat or fight a referee! A referee is someone’s mother, father, sister, brother, or relative. Think of how you would feel if you watch an aggressive crowd of people beat up your mother, father, sister or relative. Beating a referee is not worth it, no, it is not.

We are peace-loving people. We are caring, compassionate and kind. If you feel aggrieved and tensed, take a deep breath or walk away. Violence kills the game, takes away the fun and leaves us empty.

We want to be true fans. We do not want our teams to be banished, banned or asked to pay a heavy fine because of our avoidable mistakes. We must give our teams the support they deserve.

We love this game. Our game is fair play. We will not beat or fight a referee. We will not make inciting comments. We will embrace each other after each game.

We are true fans–for the love of the game.
