The last may not have been heard about the botched summit in Owerri, Imo State of the South East Political Leaders Forum as the Secretary of the group, Chief Chyna Iwuanyanwu was invited for interrogation by both the State Security Service (SSS) and the police on Monday for alleged treason and felony.

The leaders under auspices of Igbo Political Leaders Forum had converged on Owerri on September 27 for a much publicized conference, but had to hold the meeting in the open space as the Concorde Hotel venue was shut against them.

Prominent Igbo leaders like Chief Alex Ekweme, Jim Nwobodo, former governors Achike Udenwa and Sam Egwu, Chris Ngige, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, Prof. Chinwe Obaji,Dubem Onyia, Ben Obi, and the Chairman of the Forum, Chief Simon Okeke stood in the sun for the summit and condemned the development as casting dark cloud on democracy in Nigeria.

[b]Iwuanyanwu, who was with the Police FCT Command, Garki II on Monday for three hours, and yesterday for another three hours, also honoured the SSS invitation yesterday, where he was interrogated for two hours.
Daily Sun gathered that the invitation was not unconnected with a petition against him forwarded to the security agencies accusing the Igbo Political leaders scribe of planning to subvert the government and murder some unnamed persons.
The development triggered a meeting of the Igbo political leaders summoned by their arrow head, Chief Simon Okeke at his residence in Abuja, where the implication of the petition was discussed extensively.

Chief Iwuanyanwu told Daily Sun while at the FCT Police Headquarters yesterday that he was invited over a petition received by both the SSS and the Police. The invitation, Daily Sun learnt was to the effect that he went to the Owerri summit with military personnel and that he was engaged in anti-government activities in addition to attempted murder. He stated that he denied all because he had nothing to do with the allegations saying, he was not surprised that things had taken the new dimension it had taken.
The Secretary explained that he was not surprised because he had two days earlier received an SMS message from an anonymous person claiming to be an agent with one of the security agencies. Through the message he was told that he should run away from the country because he would be accused and charged by government with treason, felony, murder and attempted murder.

“When eventually I was invited for questioning by both the Police and SSS, I was not surprised. But I would not why we could not express ourselves or align with any political grouping of our choice. It is unbecoming of a fledging democracy”, he stated.
The text message read: Hello Chyna. Am an Ibo man and senior staff of a govt security agency. Govt is planning to charge you for treason, felony, murder, and attempted murder all of which you are guilty of based on strong evidences from surveillance, monitoring, phone conversation, unguarded utterances and people around you which revealed disturbing and terrible and terrible findings about you which fastrack govt plan.

“They want to discredit the Igbo summit Group because of Gj’s ambition. I would have advise you leave the country for 2-3 months under the guise of receiving treatment abroad: break links woith those that did or presently doing hatchet jobs for your group. They are using some of them against you. Igbo must produce president in 2015. My father died in Biafra war front. Pls delete this message as soon as you read it and keep it to only yourself.”

The Igbo Leaders Scribe described the allegations as a pure political blackmail and an attempt to silence opposing views adding that what the Igbo are asking for is just and fair. “We are calling for an Igbo President by 2015, which means we are reasonable enough, we could have said we want it in 2011”, he added.
Chief Nwanyanwu said he was not harassed nor manhandled by the security agents, saying the policemen and the SSS operatives were gentlemen who applied decorum and didn’t embarrass him. This much, he explained was relayed to his leaders so that they will know that the security men were doing their work based on the petition written against me.

“I also showed them the text message I received two days earloier and they promised to get to the root of the matter”, he noted while boasting that the development would not in any way cow him or the Igbo Political Forum from championing the Igbo interest. “It will not deter me in any way from Championing Igbo interest; so far we are not subverting the system. Politics is a game of interest and we have got to advance the course of our people.”
When contacted, spokesperson of the SSS, Marilyn Ogah would neither confirm the development nor deny it as she said that the SSS office was a public place where people come and go and that anyone is free to come in at any time and go.
When asked specifically of the invitation of Chief Nwanyanwu, she denied knowledge of his presence at the SSS office.
The Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Command, Moshood Jimoh also said he was not aware of the invitation to Chief Nwanyanwu. He promised to find out from the force Criminal
