Damod88:
Nigeria is a backward and poor country from time immemorial, even before the British came. We have never created any wealth for us to think of enjoying wealth. The wealthy countries you see today started creating their wealth more than 300 years ago. This was the reason the wealthy European countries colonized much of the world during the early days of their development. The proceeds from colonisation were what they used to finance major technological advances which led to more wealth creation. No country the size of Nigeria can become wealthy without the ability to create wealth through the power of science and technology. In the early years of our independence, our leaders focused too much on politics than development,in addition to the fact that the Europeans and Americans did not really wanted us to develop in order to legitimize their racist convictions that black people are incapable of modernity. And this was the time the East Asians started their economic development by becoming the world manufacturing hubs. Today, the sacrifices of the Chinese, Koreans, Singaporeans, and Taiwanese have paid off by having some of the world's largest multinational corporations in electronics. When you think of electronic you think of East Asians with global behemoths like Samsung, LG, Hiense, TCL, Panasonic, Sony, Cannon, Acer, HTC, Haier, Skyworth, etc. These multinational corporations generate billion of dollars in revenues in addition to creating million of jobs. They take the front seat in scientific and technological innovations with billions of dollars worth of R and D centres in addition to supporting innovation and research in Universities. While in Nigeria, especially with the discovery of oil, we began to build our economy around oil,an extractive industry the technology of which we don't have to actually take control of it.Our leaders were too naive to realize early on that extractive industry does not generate enough employment. For example, oil gives Nigerian government about 80 percent of its revenue but generates less than 2 percent of the total Employment. When we compare this with the Chinese economy, it becomes obvious that building economy around extractive industry especially by a populous country like Nigeria is unwise. The manufacturing sector in China accounts for 45 percent of the economy but generates the highest rate of jobs. Manufacturing generates jobs and lays a sound foundation for technological development. But if any of you think that Nigeria is going be rich with oil only, such a person will need to have a rethink. The problem we have now is that we have created so lazy, corrupt, unreasonable and uneducated population to start any meaningful development. Our political leaders are busy dividing us for their selfish interests without us trying to study to know why Nigeria is poor and backward. Nigeria will continue to slide into poverty because we don't have the means to create enough wealth for our people. Wealth creation is communative. We are suffering today because those who lived before us did not create any wealth the same way those coming after us are more likely to suffer because right now we are not creating any wealth. Heineken, a Dutch company, began as a family business more than 150 years ago and today it is a multinational corporations spanning four generations. Our problem is our inability to create wealth. If you sucribe to the naive argument often made by politicians that Buhari government has made Nigeria poor, you are only allowing yourself to be brainwashed.Nigeria has always been a poor country and will continue to be poor simply because we don't have the means to create wealth. I don't think any government can make Nigeria rich in the next 250 years even with the best of intentions. Five or six generations will have to be sacrificed, and of course, this is what we are incapable of doing. But we will keep on hating whoever that occupies Aso Rock, especially if he is not from our tribe no matter what he does to move the country forward.

I have to say this

you have raised critical points...

I'm.definitely gonna bookmark this....

Very silly woman. We all know Nigeria is bad. Even those of us abroad still have remember how it's still though for many Nigerians. But you don't have to go to the uk to demarket it more.
You will never hear something like this from American even though they have their own problems too e. g shootings, racism etc. She is just painting her origin bad so as to appear in the good books of those whites in the parliament who are being whined on how good they have it. You know all those people that will make you look bad at work just so they can look good to the boss.? That is Kemi. Self hating human.

Nigerians are mentally lazy.

All of us. Starting from the man who said, " Nigerian youths are lazy ". Is he not a salary earner ?

Nobody is innovative.

Give a Nigerian small money, he will seek more and will never work again. We all feel like sitting down and signing cheques while we spend public funds.

You have just described every government official the world over.

You are one of the biggest fools on Nairaland, Tinubu you just mentioned is far far better than all Igbos since creation. Did Kemi mention Buhari's government? She is talking about Nigeria governments generally, was it in the last 5 years that she burnt candles to read in Nigeria? Fool. Let me burst your head, did you know that statistically, the tribe that commit crime most in Nigeria is your tribe? Far far far worse than Boko Haram and Fulani Herdsmen. Ode.

See this one saying a junkie like Thiefnubu is greater than an entire ethnic group undecided

That says a lot about the intelligence

You are right on those questions.

But what questions should we be asking buhari for his first four years of no returns?

The topic is talking about the system of two countries in other words, a black man and a white man....
When you go to the white man countries and see the way things work and their life styles then you can answer the question for yourself, why is there so much poverty in Africa despite the huge resources
From her statement (growing up) did Nigerian problem start today?

is it only in nigeria that there is insecurity? Even american, there is insecurity, but kemi was not complaining of insecurity becos insecurity is worldwide, she only complain of she using candle in 90s, but today buhari has made it possible for our campuses to have light more than before, if it is now, kemi wouldnt have complain of using candle to read, campuses even uses gen in the night.
