Birthdays are usually a point of remembrance on the actual day we were born. Universally speaking; it is a day set aside for gaiety, merriment, fun, and much celebration alongside reverence to God for the opportunity to witness another year added to one’s life. As a year is usually calculated within 365 days out of 12 months, so we must learn how to make every bit of our lives count because time awaits no man.

As the day unfolds and we increase in size and knowledge, we are often celebrated by our parents and loved ones in churches, sacred temples, shrines and other places of worship as practiced by persons of different religion. From a social point of view; it is usually spiced up with in-house party while for some persons; it is usually organized in tourist centers, the beach, clubs, and 5 star hotels to make it more colorful with lots of drinking, dancing, and all sorts of activities with ones friends, relatives and loved ones. All of this compounds the joy in the commemoration of ones birthday.

When we talk of our dreams; literally we will picture it as a fictious state of mind where we only exist within a space of time, although the transition to this state of the mind usually takes place when the body is at rest and we are sleeping. Therefore in this deep sleep, our imaginations opens a veil of another state different from the physical to the world of imaginary and later we regain or awaken to the consciousness of the present cosmic. More so, it is gainsaid that “folk psychology, scientific psychology and philosophy both agrees that dreams are experiences that occurs during sleep”. But this kind of dream is quite different from the above illustration or description, therefore in this context; I am referring dream to be our aspirations, our desires or prospective plans for the years ahead of us. Therefore this drive is usually motivated by certain circumstances around us even as we grow from childhood to adult hood and develop from juvenile into maturation. The dreams of becoming a medical doctor, a lawyer, a banker, an engineer, a pilot etc. to be successful in the society and be useful to one’s self and the society usually occupies our minds as we grow but sometimes, it doesn’t end up working the way we plan and we ask ourselves why? When we ask ourselves this rhetorical question, it is where dilemma sets in.

Dilemma is usually a confused state of mind where we are confronted with two or multiple options to take as life strikes us with its challenges and we swing from North Pole to south, devising an escape to be at peace with our mind and be happy again. This difficulty could be our carrier choice, our emotions, the desire to love and be loved, our family background, our immediate environment, our society, the government and her economy, etc. compounds the dilemma we consciously and unconsciously fall into. In some parts of the world like Asia and Africa in particular; the dilemma people face as they grow up is like carrying the world on a ride. The circumstance children or young ones face could be poverty which is mostly predominant in this part of the world, the inability to afford three square meal per day, the inability to acquire a quality education and pursue ones carrier, the rich/poor dichotomy inhibiting social integration, the high rate of unemployment, unfavorable environment to trigger business activities, bad government and crumbling economy etc. all of this indices floods into one’s head and blurs every aspiration. The options (Dilemma) that usually arise could be whether to accept what fate holds for us or to press forward and strive harder to decide our own fate but its left for us all to make our choices and bear responsibility for all our actions.

In a nutshell, all the events that occurs in our lives, be it fairly or unfair depends on us to accept the reality of things and make life more meaningful, productive and appreciable for ourselves. Bearing in mind that we are all born into the world differently, with different inherent potentials and the will to make impact in our little capacity .Therefore we must learn how to cultivate means of being indifferent about the circumstances we find ourselves, never to be deluded by the challenges we face and keep our heads straight. Learn from peoples mistakes and apply caution, conceive a dream and pursue it with alacrity, read motivational books and clear your head, associate with resourceful people and illuminate your life, and above all; remember nobody can ever make life more colorful for you but yourself. Always preserve a smile at all times. It is equally worthy of note that stories about us will be told on our death day and our birthday stories and social media wishes will all be forgotten.
