Manual Vs. Automatic - Which Is Right For Your Driving Situation by jamescrown89: 8:39am On Aug 20, 2019
Whether you are searching for new or used cars, one of the decisions you want to make is manual versus automatic transmission.

What Is the Difference?

A car will need a working transmission in order to change gears, but the different inner workings vary between an automatic and manual. A manual car contains a club pedal, used to change gears, and a gear shift stick found between the front seats.

An automatic car has a much simpler gearbox and usually will have a few settings including park, reverse, drive, and neutral. In a manual transmission vehicle, you have to choose the right gear for your journey and change gears when necessary.

An automatic car will select the right type of gear for you automatically. The option people prefer is usually related to the type of car they learned how to drive.

Pros and Cons of Automatic

An automatic is easier to drive. It can also make learning to drive easier. It’s safer to learn too. Automatic cars are better in cities where you are going through stop and go traffic. Stalling also won’t be an issue so it’s better for areas with a lot of hills.

However, automatic cars are thought to not be as fuel-efficient and they can be more expensive to buy. They are also more expensive to fix. Insurance can be higher for an automatic car.

Pros and Cons of Manual

Those who like manual cars do so because it feels like real driving. You have more control over the vehicle and are involved with the mechanics. Manual cars are more fuel-efficient, and they can be cheaper to buy when looking for both new and used cars. Manual cars can be more difficult to drive and if you live in a hillier area then it can be tricky. You will be likely to stall at some point in a manual car.

Think about the environment you drive in and how much control you want to have when deciding which is best for your situation.
