No less than 21 monarchs in Ibadan, Oyo State may lose their crowns soon, Qed.ng has learnt.

Former governor of Oyo, Abiola Ajimobi, had handed the instruments of office to the kings on August 27, 2017, at Mapo Hall, Ibadan, Igbere TV reports.

This followed the controversial review of the 1957 Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration and Other Related Chieftaincies in Ibadanland by a panel headed by Justice Akintunde Boade, which ended in the elevation and crowning of the 21 kings, including the Olubadan high chiefs and baales.

Senator Rashidi Ladoja, who was also a beneficiary, stayed away from the ceremony and filed a court action which nullified the crowning of the monarchs.

Ajimobi then went on to challenge the nullification before the Court of Appeal.

Sources close to Governor Seyi Makinde say he wants to discontinue the appeal.

The governor has also opted for an out-of-court settlement which was filed in the Registry of the Court of Appeal, Ibadan on August 20.

The two-page settlement noted that that the report of the “the Boade-led commission of inquiry created disharmony.”

It also said Makinde’s administration would stand on the rule of law, saying that the parties also recognised that the House of Assembly had not amended the Chiefs Law of Oyo State.
