As we get older, our body composition changes. This is often the result of loss of activity that causes a decrease in our main metabolism (BMR). With fewer calories that burn muscles, we find that we cannot eat as much as we do without gaining weight. Other changes in hormones, taste, energy levels, and nutritional intake can also affect our fitness and health.
Staying fit above 50 doesn’t mean you still don’t enjoy eating. Learn how to find the right balance with these great tips.

Stay active
Many people believe that our metabolism decreases with age, but that is not true.
What actually happens is that our level of activity decreases and we lose muscle mass as a result. With less muscle, the body needs less energy, so food is stored as fat rather than burned. Then our basal metabolic rate (BMR) slows when our body composition changes.
The easiest way to overcome BMR delays is to stay active. Walking is a good and relatively small effect that helps burn calories and maintain muscle mass. Running is also good for the heart and encourages mood.
Other low-impact exercises include gardening, swimming, yoga, and Pilates.

Reduce calories
With a few changes to the foods that you like, you can save a lot of calories and still have fun eating.
Many people find that reducing carbohydrate intake helps them stay in shape. Why not try spaghetti with spaghetti as an alternative to pasta? And even if you’re not too ripe, this low-carb bread recipe is delicious and easy to prepare.
Or, you can make small changes to the products you consume every day, such as: For example, choosing low-fat dairy products versus the full-fat version. Many of the flavors are the same but are filled with far fewer calories.

Another important part of fitness is maintaining health.
Because our body absorbs less nutrients as we age, it is important that the calories we consume are as tight as possible to stay healthy.
Without essential vitamins, your body may have difficulty turning food into energy, which means you may feel tired and lethargic. They may also be at risk of infection and serious illness.
Some of the nutrients you might miss are folic acid, vitamin B12, calcium, vitamin D, fiber, and omega-3 fats.
It is always better to consume nutrients through diet. However, you might want to consider taking supplements. Talk to your doctor about your diet and whether supplements can help you stay in shape for more than 50 years.

Drink water
Our thirst also diminishes with age, so it may not be easy to know when we are dehydrated.
Drinking water can help reduce hunger, increase energy and improve digestion.
And if you don’t drink enough water, it can cause urinary tract infections and memory problems. Therefore, it is beneficial for our physical and mental health if you drink enough water.
Keep a small bottle of water in your fridge and drink it regularly, even if you don’t feel very thirsty. You should aim for about eight glasses a day for good health.
