A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, is to hear a suit which seeks an order for the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, the alleged runaway leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Donald Okonkwo, a Nigerian and indigene of Agbor town in Delta North senatorial district, also urged the court to declare Kanu as a fugitive.

Okonkwo, who is the plaintiff, is asking the court to determine whether the British government, is not under obligation to repatriate Kanu within 21 days after a judgement is delivered.

To him, Kanu should be repatriated to face prosecution.

Vanguard reports that the plaintiff cited the British high commission in Nigeria, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and minister of justice, Abubakar Malami, as defendants.

Through its counsel, Abiodun Babalola, Okonkwo urged the court to determine whether Kanu should not be sent back to Nigeria so he can stand his trial for alleged treasonable felony, amongst other sundry offences pending against him before Honourable Justice Binta Nyako.

He recalled the bench warrant granted by the court issued on March 28, 2019, for Kanu’s arrest.

Among other prayers, he is asking the court for a declaration that the British high commission is under obligation to repatriate Kanu for prosecution.

It is learnt that no date has been fixed for the hearing of the suit.
