Dr Obadiah Mailafia, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2019 elections, has explained why Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai will be a calamity as a president.

Speaking to ThePunch’s Tunde Jaja on the recent moves by El-Rufai to stop ‘zoning’ in elections, he said, “the 1999 constitution does not require ‘zoning’ as such. However, I believe that evolving constitutional conventions and norms lead us ineluctably in that direction.

“Governor Nasir el-Rufai is evidently a man of ambition, and often susceptible to grand self-delusions of the order of Bonaparte. Obasanjo in his memoirs describes him (el-Rufai) as someone who is loyal only to himself.

El_RUFAI has been preparing grounds for 2023 BUT i believe he has failed even before he started because he can't surmount the hurdles before him especially within APC . Should he emerge APC candidate, he CAN"T win against anyone PDP presents. he does not have following in the southwest neither will south east vote for him; he still hasn;t gained an in-road into north central and his relevance is limited to kaduna which he won by the whisker.

El-Rufai is qualified to contest for the Presidency. Zoning will lead us no where near development as a black super power.
