Oh, I remember, he had no liver to implement anything. Just the same way he transferred the signing of the National Conference reports to the incoming administration. 1 Like |

alezzy13: Beyond the questionable signing of the deal which, take it or leave it, Jonathan had no influence over, you can attest to the actions the GEJ government took when he became substantive president. He reviewed it, found it unsuitable for Nigeria and sought to revoke it. It went to arbitration, a negotiated sum of $850 million was arrived at early 2015. To avoid unnecessary suspicion that he'd diverted almost $1 billion for elections, he left it for his successor even after elections were over and he conceded. Is Jonathan also supposed to take responsibility for the failure of Buhari and crew to quickly take action on these issues? Is he the one that asked Buhari not to appoint intelligent ministers in good time since he is obviously too slow to read and decipher/interpret his handover notes? Was it Jonathan that asked him to foolishly remain silent without reaching out to the company until they had to go back and get a substantive judgment against Nigeria inclusive of accrued interest? 4 Likes 1 Share |

jaxxy: Simple. God bless you. So much noise after the final gavel. They even ignored the 6b judgment in 2017. Now there is a final judgment since they failed to appeal, they are all over the place giving press conferences and blaming the origin of the contract. I think people defending this government don't know the full history. They see 9.6 and GEJ in the same sentence and start reacting. 3 Likes 1 Share |

alezzy13: an very sure you didnt read the write. From that report, the person that still tried salvaging the whole situation is GEJ. Though he wasnt the author, under his administration, they reached an 850million dollars settlement. Rather than talk to them that they were trying to settle down to understand whats going on and pay that settlement, they were being stubborn and trying to pin it on the last administration. Now, they moved the figures from 850million to 9.sumtin billion, how smart? Somebody should investigate this malami guy, he knowa about this increase and trying to tale advantage of the situation. sumtin is fishy abeg 1 Like |

Buhari was sworn in May 2015. This final judgment was handed down this 2019. So you mean for over 4 years Buhari and his team are right to have ignored this issue? Even if Nigeria was or is not going to pay that fine, it was/is the responsibility of the Nigerian govt to keep communication and negotiation channels open until more agreeable terms were reached. Was Nigeria not put on notice that proceedings had been re-activated against her at the tribunal on the issue? What actions were taken? It is just like the recent diplomatic row over visa fees between Nigeria and the US. For 18 months, they had asked Nigeria to review certain fees in line with the principle of reciprocity. Buhari n co were comatose. Now the US has announced increase in fees for successful visa applicants from Nigeria and who will bear the burden? Is it not ordinary Nigerians? Funny enough they have now quickly reduced the fees because of the threat by the US. Is this the way a government should be run? Are these the hallmarks of a responsible government and country? agabusta: 3 Likes |

Did that contract add any value monetary or non monetary to our economy. Why would any patriotic or sane leader agree to pay 8 million dollars that added nothing to our economy in a time of recession (oil price as low as 22 dollars from over 100 dollars and production capacity less than 50percent thanks to ND millitants) states were Oweing salaries there was no money then.do you guys know the meaning of National interest? This company offered NO SERVICE, NO VALUE, brought in NO MONEY. And some Nigerians had to guts to say Nigeria must pay... We made the right decision challenging the fraudulent situation in court. That case needs to be studied well.It may be a classic case of how the west is corrupt and impoverishes nations by exploiting legal hoops in coinaivance with willing accomplices |

Nbote: So, he could only enter into settlement agreements but had no liver or intention to honour it? Why transferring his mess to Buhari? He shouldn't have signed an agreement he had no intention to honour. He didn't savage anything by not paying. In fact, his settlement deal put FGN in a tight spot, made her guilty too. But it was okay to give questionable bailouts to states who hadn't accounted for how dey blew their allocations and most of who are still owing their workers salaries ryt? Bailout was for Nigerians, it had impact on our local economy. That's better than dishing out some fvcking 850 million dollars to some gang of thieves. It was okay to quickly agree to pay questionable percentage to some so called solicitors for an Abacha loot abi? That percentage was out of the recovered Abacha loot, not giving charity to some faceless investors with no known website address 1 Like |

hush15: GEJ salvage attempt was unpatriotic. That said GEJ was an economic buffon. This is clear and will forever be clear to all generations. The comparative indices of his reign to other reigns in Nigeria and globally will forever judge him. That is a key part of legacy. He is the example of how leaders must keep an eye on a Nations treasury in their reign To be precise. GEJ agreed to that deal when oil was at an all time high ever! But staff in Nigeria were being Owed salaries on a massive scale with no bail out, our foreign reserve, and ECF were massively depleted and at the lowest recorded ever.Nigeria did not have a job to spare. the question is why did he sign the agreement. Do not quote GEJ here |

freeze001:I shake my head and laugh whenever I see this clever by half spinned up analogy being peddled about. He didnt pay to avoid suspicion indeed! A president who had no problem or "fear of suspicion" when pulling off hundreds of millions of dollars illegally from the CBN to execute elections, is the same president whom some persons are now claiming deliberately did not pay a legally recognised judgement debt becasue of "fear of suspicion"? GEJ deliberately did not pay that money, but not because of the above poorly fabricated political excuse. The reason GEJ did not pay was because GEJ wasn't stupid; for a country facing an imminent forex crisis, dwindled foreign reserves, progressively dropping oil prices/income and on the brink of possible recession, only a stupid leader would dole out $850million to ship outside the shores of his country at that time for a contract not even executed. 1 Like |

greatiyk4u: Oga, Buhari's carelessness, slow to act, ineptitude and rigidity caused us this mess. Six whole months without ministers and today we're in a hole - a much deeper hole Jonathan made efforts to salvage the situation by striking $850m settlement deal with the prosecutor. Why did Buhari and Malami ignore the settlement agreement and returning to the courts? Sad ! Sad !! Sad !!! Since the key actors (Yar'Adua and Rilwanu Lukman) are late, the entire blame rests on Buhari and Malami for managing this problem poorly 2 Likes 1 Share |
