UEFA will name its Men’s Player of the Year today with Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk up against Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona’s Lionel Messi for the award.

Last year, Luka Modric ended Ronaldo and Messi’s dominance of the award – and Van Dijk will be hopeful of leaving the duo empty-handed again after a stellar season with the Reds.Just how good have the three contenders been over the past year?

I think Messi deserves it, he was better than every other player in Europe last season.


Christiano also did a marvellous work, he scored all goals as Juve overturned a two goal loss against At. Madrid.


VVD has no business on that list. He was simply avoiding dribbles. Salah or Mane should have made the list ahead of VVD.

Well, if it's by individual performance, then Messi wins.


But if it's by trophy, then VVD wins (Even though he is only the list thanks to British media).
