Elder statesman and Secretary-General of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), Chief Ayo Opadokun has described former President Olusegun Obasanjo as a coward who created problems for Presidents who have ruled after him since vacating office in 2007.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Daily Independent on Friday , Opadokun who is the Convener, Coalition of Democrats for Electoral Reforms (CODER) said many of the security challenges Nigeria is experiencing today, especially the Boko Haram menace would have been very minimal if Obasanjo had tackled it headlong during his tenure.

” It amazes me that Obasanjo is now claiming to be holier than the Pope and alleging that President Buhari has failed to provide security for the nation. He is just being hypocritical and being dishonest in its entirety”.

” What did he do while he was President? He had the opportunity of nipping this insurgency in the bud but he never did and created problems for succeeding governments” he said.

Obasanjo allowed Zamfara State to adopt sharia law on the cowardly excuse that it would fizzle out. He was just afraid to confront the north and that sharia law led indirectly to the radical Islam that we are witnessing today. Boko Haram started under his watch even if they were not violent then

If he had faced the constitutionality of sharia he would have saved us so much trouble.

The reason why I love the citizens of this country is that they will always find a way to shift there mistake to another person, if anything happen in this country obj is the cause.

When the power was taken from the military (the north) the north said that democracy was abomination to them and they cannot be ruled by a Christian and democracy , that they wanted Sharia law , if Obasanjo didn't allowed them to have their ways believe me there will be no democracy in Nigeria today, the north is the problem of Nigeria in regards to development, they preferred the Islamic ways that will take us backwards instead of forward, it's a problem of ideology which cannot be overcome with gun but with a superior ideology
