123 Northerners detained, stopped from entering Lagos on Friday August 30, 2019


The police in Lagos have released the 123 Northerners who were intercepted in a truck with 48 motorcycles by the State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offenses Task force.

Jigawa State governor, Badaru Abubakar, also confirmed the release of Northerners, who are majorly from his state.



The governor told DAILY NIGERIAN that he had contacted the authorities concerned, and the petty traders were released to go about their lawful businesses.

Lagos police spokesman, Bala Ikhana, said after profiling of the men, nothing incriminating was found on them.

Mr Elkanah, a deputy superintendent of police, said the suspicion and subsequent interception of the truck arose from the manner they came in, in large number, sardined in a truck.

He added that most of them were living in Lagos and went homes for the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

One of the 123 detainees who spoke to DAILY NIGERIAN said they were all released and allowed to enter Lagos but were asked to report to police station on Monday.
