A Twitter user narrates how one of his colleagues was caught after purchasing a stolen phone in a store in Lagos.

My colleague bought a brand new iphone from a Shop at Saka Tinubu on the 12th of Sept 2018 with all proper documentation done,she has been using her phone since then till on Aug 1st when all her bank accounts where frozen @segalink @access_more @fidelitybankplc @ecobank_nigeria

So she had to visit her bank, on getting to her bank she was aressted and handed over to men from SCID panti, Yaba and was detained for 2 days even after providing the receipts of said phone . #endinpunity #PoliceBrutality #Banking

She was told he phone was bought with a stolen ATM card,she had to take them to the shop where she bought the phone and the shop owner was immediately arrested, shop owner also linked the police to the guys that brought in the phone for him to sell.#EndImpunity #PoliceBrutality

She had to bail herself with 50,000. The problem now is that even after the fact she's not involved in the robbery has been established and some of the culprit apprehended, the police has still not released her phone to her and her accounts are still frozen. #EndImpunity

As we speak we now she is devastated,this issue has been dragging for a month now, she does not have access to funds and she has no phone. @segalink please assist.The police even demeaned she pays 100k to open each of her 3 accounts @ecobank_nigeria @fidelitybankplc @access_more

how did she buy a new iphone with a stolen atm, and she was not involved, how can they freeze her account illegaly, did she pay cash and the shop owner used the stolen atm to pay for the phone, lots of red flags, my prayer for every Nigerian is that you will not have the need for naija police to investigate your case, they will end up implicating you and themselves.

There is always a warning about the dangers in buying used phones so as not to run into Police trouble

But the twist here is that the phone is said to be brand new.

Except it's not her ATM card. Otherwise she's neck deep

Let her involve her lawyer and sue the Nigerian Police.

You will be surprised at what she may achieve with that.

Our problem is we do not trust the system to be able to deliver swift judgment so we don't even try.

Let her try and with the power of Social media and all, she may draw enough attention to her plight.

How can her bank freeze her account for buying a phone with the ATM card they issued her? She must have been a recipient of illegal funds, someone probably used her account to receive proceeds of fraud and the bank flagged the account. It's getting risky giving out your account to just anybody to receive cash these days.

This story get too many loopholes, it isn't adding up. How was her bank account traced without first catching the seller?
