Xenophobia: Rwanda Speaks On Withdrawing From World Economic Forum by AgencyReport: 10:56am On Sep 04, 2019
Government of Rwanda has denied reports that it suspended its participation in this year’s World Economic Forum due to the ongoing xenophobic attacks on foreigners in South Africa, Igbere TV reports.

Reports had it on Tuesday that three countries, including Rwanda, had withdrawn from the annual meeting taking place today, Sept. 4, in Capetown, S’Africa due to the killings in the host country.

The World Economic Forum is the International Organization for Public-Private Cooperation. The Forum engages the foremost political, business and other leaders of society to shape global, regional and industry agendas.

But reacting, Mrs Clare Akamanzi, Chief Executive Officer, Rwanda Development Board (RDB), said the President not attending the event has nothing to do with what is going on in South Africa.

Mrs Akamanzi revealed that, even though the President was not attending the summit in person, a strong delegation (including herself), had been sent to the event to represent the country.

“President Kagame is unable to attend WEFA this year, but this has absolutely nothing to do with what you are insinuating in this totally misleading tweet”, she said.

“The Government of Rwanda has a strong delegation actively participating at @wef Africa. This includes the Minister of ICT @MusoniPaula, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs @onduhungirehe, Deputy DG of Rwanda Airports Company and myself”, Akamanzi added.

Igbere TV reports that the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) is charged with facilitating private sector led development through increased investments and exports.
