Factions of the Peoples Democratic Party in Bayelsa and Oyo states on Tuesday said they were still awaiting directives from the headquarters of the party on fresh congresses.



The dissolution of the PDP executive committees in Delta, Oyo, Bayelsa, Enugu, Imo, Anambra and Plateau states is one of the reasons why the National Working Committee on the party is allegedly plotting the removal the National Chairman, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo.



The PDP national headquarters had ordered the dissolution of the state executive committees, following the insistence of the Independent National Electoral Commission on the conduct of fresh congresses.



While the PDP-based factional chairman of the Bayelsa State chapter, Chief Dairus Obiene, said the party was awaiting a directive on the date of the congress, his Abuja based-rival, Chief Fred Agbedi, said his executive remained the valid one.



Obiene said INEC lacked the constitutional powers to dissolve the executive of any party’s state chapter.



Agbedi, however, countered that only his executive was known to INEC, adding that without it, there would be no PDP in Bayelsa State.



“If INEC says their executive is not known, it is an illegal. An illegal body cannot conduct congress. It is the national body that will conduct elections,” he said.



Agbedi said a caretaker committee would have to be appointed by the PDP national headquarters on the conduct of the congress.



“If anybody says anything to the contrary, that person does not understand the dynamics of administration,” he said.
