The Economic and Financial Crimes on Wednesday re-arraigned a former Enugu State Governor Chimaroke Nnamani and 11 others before a Federal High Court in Lagos.

The accused persons have been standing trial over alleged money laundering since 2007.

The EFCC had filed a 124-count charge of alleged money laundering to the tune of about N5.5bn against Nnamani and 11 others before Justice Charles Archibong.

Justice Tijani Abubakar had previously handed the case before he was transferred to Port Harcourt Division of the FHC, while the case file was reassigned to Justice Archibong by the Chief Judge of the FHC, Justice Dan Abutu.

Also standing trial with Nnamani are the former commissioners for Finance, Peter Mbah; Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Sam Ejiofor; and a consultant to the state government, Victor Udeh.

Others are the personal assistant to Nnamani, Sunday Anyaogu, and a permanent secretary, Sylvia Onwuebemeli.

Also joined in the suit are Rainbownet Nig. Ltd, Hillgate Nig. Ltd, Renaissance University Teaching Hospital, Mea Mater Elizabeth High School and Capital City Automobiles.

When the charge was read to the accused, they pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The lead lawyer to the accused, Mr. Rickey Tarfa (SAN), urged the court to allow the accused to continue to enjoy their former bail conditions.

But the EFCC’s lawyer, Mr. Oladeji Fakunle (SAN), did not oppose the applications, saying that he would leave the development at the discretion of the court.

Justice Charles Archibong later ruled that the accused should continue to enjoy their bail conditions.

The case has been adjourned till January 25, 2011.
