Poor Leadership: Cross River State Job Centre Now A Club House by frankiekinase: 9:38am On Sep 12, 2019
The most revered Cross River State Job Centre, located in the heart of Calabar (Marian Road), the state capital can no longer serve it purpose as it has now been converted to a Club House known as Amber Karaoke Lounge.

Created in 2016 and formally launched in August, 2017, the Cross River State Job Centre according to the immediate past Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Asu Okang, was meant to stand as a bridge between Employees and Employers. The Centre’s purpose is to match employees and employers as well as create opportunities for entrepreneurs through grants and sustainable trainings.

Okang, whose idea could've changed the unemployment story of Cross River State and Nigeria by now, said the purpose of creation of the Job Centre is to ensure every Cross Riverian, whether graduate or not is employed - which is in line with the Governor Ben Ayade led administration of engaging every Cross Riverian and making sure no one sleeps with an empty stomach.

The Job Centre, according to the former Youth Commissioner, was to create a database where all Cross Riverians seeking for jobs ranging from the Doctorate degree holders down to the First School Leaving Certificate holders and those with trade certificates as well as those who never got a formal education.

"When this database is created, a total of at least five hundred (500) and six thousand (6000) jobs will be created monthly and annually, respectively. With the centre working 24/7 and accepting online applications, even those outside the state and in diaspora can apply for a job.

"The Job Centre will be connected to the Human Resource (HR) as well as to send email newsletter and text messages on job alerts to every Cross Riverian captured by the database who meets the requirements of such job.

"The Centre will be incorporated with job search engines like Jobberman, Career24, UK job portal, etc. There’ll be every desk for location and organisational based jobs including international donors organisation like WHO, UNICEF, UNESCO, UNFPA, Cuso International, etc; Oil and Gas sectors like Mobil, Shell, Total, Chevron, etc; Banking sectors, like Zenith Bank, First Bank, Ecobank, GTBank, etc; Public sectors, and many more", he said.

Imagine turning in jobs to 6000 persons every year in the next 10 years, Cross River State would have been the most stable states in Nigeria and Africa. But today, where is the Job Centre? Is it even online as claimed (At least, an online office is less cost effective to maintain since the offline office has now been turned to a Club House)? Nope, the online page is being left to expire and the database erased. It is no longer accessible.

Before now, to access the Cross River State Job Centre wherever you are across the globe, all you needed to do was to log onto: http://www.crsjobcentre.com and complete the following steps:

(i). First, you need to get your Curriculum Vitae (CV) ready plus other necessary credentials.

(ii) Secondly, you need to register and enroll your data into the Centre’s database. There are two ways you can do that; (1). Through online by visiting www.crsjobcentre.com and (2). By visiting the main office at No. 112 Ndidem Usang Iso Road, Marian (Now Amber Karaoke Lounge Club).

(iii). Thirdly, by waiting for SMS/text messages or email newsletter for your job interview.

Isn’t that so cool? Well, it was the coolest and most promising idea to come out of Cross River State. But, did it work? No! It didn't and never seem like in this current administration.

One could barely say allowing an initiative like this to die within just 2 years is lack of good leadership.
