Nigerians Slam APCON Over Online Advert Fee by FutureDecisions: 10:55am On Sep 13, 2019
Nigerians have attacked the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) over a policy which requires a fee of at least N25, 000 for online adverts, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that the new policy states that all Nigerian brands are now required to “fulfil all necessary obligations” by the council before placing their adverts on the digital space which includes social media and websites.

For any ad concept to get clearance the advertisers must pay a minimum fee of ₦25,000.

Acting Registrar of APCON, Ijedi Iyoha, told Techpoint during a recent phone interview that before any Nigerian brand can put up ads online, it needs to first get approval from the council.

The council is believed to be looking into including small business owners who advertise online.

Defaulters face six months imprisonment or a fine of ₦500,000 from the council.

Nigerians have attacked the council on Twitter, saying it does not have consideration for the growth of small businesses.

This tax policy will only stifle smaller businesses. Running a business in Nigeria is not easy, business owners are increasingly frustrated by government regulations and taxations.
