Nigeria: 13,200 Children Are Missing In Boko Haram’s Front-lines, Red Cross Says by thegazetteng: 1:08pm On Sep 14, 2019

In the boiling North-East axis of Nigeria, the hotbed of the Boko Haram insurgency, almost 13,200 minors has been reported missing. This implies that thousands of parents do not know where their children are and if they are alive or dead.

According to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) President, Peter Maurer, “every parent’s worst nightmare is, not knowing where their child is. This is the tragic reality for thousands of Nigerian parents, leaving them with the anguish of a constant search. People have the right to know the fate of their loved ones, and more needs to be done to prevent families from being separated in the first place.”

The ICRC President was speaking at the end of his five-day visit to the country following a seeming world-breaking record report to the ICRC that nearly 22,000 Nigerians missing during a decade of conflict in North-Eastern Nigeria. This is said to be the highest number of missing persons registered with the ICRC in any country in the world.
