Both the Discos and NERC are seriously mad and confused. Give meter for free to all your consumers, so that consumers only pay for what they've used. Not when you keep blinking the light since yesterday, then at the end of the month you bring 30k bill, and you then expect Mr Uche the fool to rush and pay. Criminals. 2 Likes 1 Share |

There are some alien practices in Nigeria which I believe would have witnessed stern public protests in a more organized and civilized crimes, you keep increasing bill without increasing the quality of your service delivery.Do you expect consumers to keep on paying for poor service delivery? |

This must be one of the major wonders of the world... power supply to Nigerians is diminishing, prepaid meters are being withheld, estimated bills are being increased, but tariff is being increased so that the discos can make more money. If this is not the worst failure that can befall any nation, show me another. It is not rocket science that power will not improve if the discos continue to make money through estimated bills that ensure that they get huge payments without supply. Only the Nigerian Government is unaware of this simple analogy... sighs! ogododo: 1 Like 1 Share |
Re: Discos’ Collection Efficiency Drops Despite Tariff Hike by 9gerian: 8:47am On Sep 16, 2019 |
If this was true, the discos would have given every customer a prepaid meter. Nigerians by now should know who the new minister of power is working in favor of! It makes no sense to increase tariff when the epileptic supplies are worsening, and crazy estimated bills are being issued. Makes absolutely no sense except to this government and its appointees! What a scam! Shame!!! otuekong1: 1 Like |

Re: Discos’ Collection Efficiency Drops Despite Tariff Hike by Nobody: 9:38am On Sep 16, 2019 |
The reason why DISCOS aren't making enough money has been laid bare. First DISCOS are not aggressively metering everyone. And Nigerians want meters badly. Badly. Instead, estimated billing is the norm in many places...and the method used to determine the estimates is so opaque that people get suspicious...and won't pay up. Second, Nigerians steal power. Even with the meter in place, Nigerians bypass it, do illegal connections, and so on. And this has an adverse impact on how the DISCOS and GENCOS operate...because if you steal power, you impact on how the DISCOS perform, and as a result, things get worse. Nigerians need to pay for power, we also need to stop entertaining the idea that power must be cheap, and allow DISCOS charge the actual cost for power . DISCOS in turn must aggressively meter everyone. 1 Like 1 Share |
Re: Discos’ Collection Efficiency Drops Despite Tariff Hike by Nobody: 9:45am On Sep 16, 2019 |
anonimi: Sorry PDP man, but your party is responsible partly for the mess in the power sector. First, in privatizing power in 2013, your party drove away good foreign investors by bringing in price controls in the law that set up the whole DISCOS and GENCOS thing. This has led to DISCOS not having enough cash to pay GENCOS...because by law they cannot charge enough money to do so. A law that your party put in place when they were running the show. And that is a part of the reason why DISCOS reject power. Second, you guys made the whole DISCO thing regional. As a result, DISCOS are virtual monopolies in their region, meaning no competition, WHICH does not make power better. Third, DISCOS cannot be renationalized without excessive costs to the exchequer. Now, APC too can't or won't do the right thing and improve power by, for example letting the DISCOS run like a private company, and providing legal backup to DISCOS chasing defaulters. But things were not better under PDP, and they won't have been if they were still in power or if Atiku had taken over. |

Naijaguy123:Brother, from all indications, distribution of power is still a major challenge in this country. We have not even been able distribute the 5,000+ MW (peak generation) that we generate. The Discos reject load because they claim they can't achieve maximum revenue collection, hence they limit the load they consume which in turn reduces availability of power supply to the beloved residents of Nigeria. I am not against the upgrade of our power generation, however we also need to greatly clamor for an improved distribution network. |

Creamz:Bypassing is almost non existent now,as the new pre paid meters have usage records at the DISCO,s just like GSM companies have records of calls. And they have software that monitors your usage and sends signals if there is a funny change in your usage ....You must have noticed areas that have received prepaid meters have very improved supplies? 1 Like |
