I feel obligated to inform the business community about my findings about bulk SMS business in Nigeria.
Without doubt bulk SMS has proven to be the cheapest and the most effective advertisement to both small and medium scale businesses in Nigeria

My research reveal the following:

- 98% percent of SMS received are read
This means if you send bulk sms to a hundred prospects, 98 of them would have seen it. If we compare this is not comparable to other
medium like emails, social media ads, bill boards, posters etc
- Especially now that we carry our phones everywhere, its so effective.
- SMS are received on all kinds of phones as well, its almost not limited

Recently, the NCC and some mobile operators have conspired to kill this initiative through various programmes; DND (Do Not Disturb) policy and then a great number of numbers were white-listed meaning that many mobile numbers were pushed to DND automatically by some wicked mobile operators.

Very low delivery rate of no delivery was now the reality in the industry. Many bulk SMS portal were shut down unfortunately!

Could we just fold our arms and see this initiative die

Good day sir/ma. The recent do-not-disturb (dnd) policy and following the arbitrary whitelisting of more than 50% of mobile lines in Nigeria from third party SMS has accounted for non-delivery in recent times.
