Former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina has dragged a former aide to Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Reno Omokri, and Vanguard Media Limited before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory claiming Two Billion Naira as specific and general damages over a publication believed to be libelous in it's entirety.

The suit which was filed on 20th September, 2019 with SUIT NO: FCT/HC/CV/2984/19 is claiming, among other reliefs, the payment of Two Billion Naira as damages for the injury caused on the personality of the former Pension Boss.

The defendants have consequently been allowed 14 days within which to enter appearance in the matter, failing which judgement would be entered in the claimant's favour.

The said publication has been described by Mr. Maina as injurious false, untrue, defamatory, libelous, and a desperate attempt to ridicule and disparage him in the eyes of right thinking members of the society.

Mr. Maina further described the publication as vexatious, malignant and malicious emanating from the defendant Mr. Reno, and noted that it was only civil for him as a law abiding citizen to seek legal redress in a court of competent jurisdiction.

Abdulrasheed Maina who is reputed to have worked tirelessly as Pension Boss is said to have among other achievements recovered up to about One Trillion, Six Hundred Billion Naira, Two Hundred and Forty Properties and secured many judgements against persons and corporate entities in favour of the Nigerian Government during his tenure.

Although no one has ever taken Maina to court over anything. Maina is said to be put on media trial only. He is not on any trial and No court of competent jurisdiction has found him guilty of any criminal allegation, Mr. Omokri, in an article published on Twitter, Vanguard Newspapers and some major News Platforms in Nigeria, named Mr. Maina as "Thief Maina."

Mr. Reno Omokri in the tweet made on his verified Twitter handle @renoomokri also made other defamatory and unsubstantiated allegations against Maina and accused him of enjoying illegal promotion and shield of President Buhari. Reno Omokri's continued criticism of President Buhari has been described by a cross section of well meaning Nigerians as uncalled for and fictitious.
