Shoes provide the ease of commuting and guard the foot against hazards on the ground, shoes are also designed to completely cover the foot.

A shoe is made up of toe cap, upper, heel, sole, shank, welt, quarter etc. The main components of shoes are:

UPPER

This is the part of shoe that covers the foot, their are different other sections which makes up the upper. The upper is made up of vamp, tongue, quarters, toe cap, counter, and lining.

Vamp: This is a section of the shoe that starts from the toe cap and extends to the back of the shoe and to the quarters.

Tongue: This is a piece of material underneath the shoe lace, it secure the foot from the pressure of the shoe closure.

Toe cap: This is a box-like roof structure that completely covers the toes and allow room for the feet.

Quarters: This is the back part of the upper which covers the opening left of the vamp.

Counter: A piece of material forming the back of a shoe to give support and stiffen the material around the heel. Usually in between the upper and lining.

Lining: A very soft material present on the inside of the shoe.

SOLE

The sole is the part of the shoe, that is directly in contact with the ground. The sole is divided into three parts the insole, midsole and outsole

Insole: The insole is directly beneath the feet and it's attached to the upper of the shoe, it's mostly referred to as the footbed.

Midsole: The part off the shoe between the insole and outsole of the shoe. It provides the shoe main support and cushioning component.

Outsole: Is the part of the sole that comes in direct contact with the ground. It is more vulnerable to moisture and water damage.

HEEL

This is present at the bottom of the shoe just below the heel of the foot. It's main function is to support and raise the rear part of the shoe.
