The controversial agent has been trying to engineer a move away from Old Trafford for Pogba for the past year with Real Madrid and Juventus keen.

But United have refused to cave in to the pressure from Raiola to sell, insisting they see the the 26-year-old as an integral part of their future plans.

Spanish publication Diario Madrista say Raiola wants to play hardball by making the extortionate demand he knows the club won’t agree to so they get themselves in a position where they have no choice but to let him leave.

Pogba’s current contract at Old Trafford runs out at the end of next season so United know they have to sit down soon to begin talking about an extension.

And the idea of his agent is to make such ridiculous wage demands it leaves them having to sell him next summer or risk losing him on a free transfer the following year.

Raiola has been left frustrated that his attempts to secure a move this year fell flat because United demanded too big a fee.

Real boss Zinedine Zidane was desperate to bring in the France World Cup winner, but his bosses at the Bernabeu baulked when they discovered the asking price was £180m.

Italian champions Juve were equally reluctant to stump up such a fee, and Raiola was left kicking his heels as the transfer window drew to a close.
