The House of Representatives Committee on abandoned Projects awarded by the Niger Delta Development Commission yesterday directed the commission to recover over N67 billion and other monies disbursed for contracts.

The directive was issued by the chairman of the committee, Ossai ‎Nicholas Ossai (PDP Delta), at the resumed hearing of the committee. He was responding to submissions by the NDDC management team led by its Acting Managing Director Akwaga Enyia who appeared before the committee to give details of contracts awarded by the commission. The committee urged the NDDC to recover N61.4 billion from contractors who abandoned sites ‎and another N5.8 billion alleged excess payment to others as discovered in a preliminary report of the investigation by the committee. According to the committee chairman, over 600 contractors were dubiously awarded contracts by the NDDC across the states of jurisdiction.

An official the ‎NDDC told the lawmakers that 49 of the contracts awarded across the Niger Delta regions were terminated and 342 others stalled. The committee’s chairman said findings revealed that the commission, apart from engaging in questionable dealings, lacked effective control mechanism in contract awards and project finance which led to flagrant abuse of due process. He directed that all former MDs of the NNDC be invited to attend the next hearing slated for today.

According to a document submitted by the NDDC management during the hearing, the commission’s approved budgets from 2008 to 2018 stood at N2,832,611,325,966; and the total receipts, N1,848,774,602,103. A member of the committee, Suleman Abubakar Mahmud Gumi, said what was discovered was shocking, saying the committee had exposed the level of corruption in the NDDC. He said the committee would submit its report to the House and that anybody found culpable in depriving the Niger Delta people of the needed development by short-changing them through the NDDC would be prosecuted by relevant agencies.

There's really zero tolerance for corruption in this regime. There's never a month where cases of foiled corruption are not reported.
Anyone who thinks this government is a joke on the issue of corruption should try getting into it. Body go tell you.

Kudos to Buhari

Chill nigga. No one is calling names here... there's no government without wolves, but what you should ask yourself is... Is corruption thriving as it used to be before?
Only an insincere wailer will give wrong answer

As much I enjoy blaming the president for everything you’re very correct. I have always wondered the ends of wickedness the Niger Delta leaders have against their own people.

NDDC is just a corrupt bunch!
Too bad NDeltans are too docile to see that and call a thief a thief!
Instead we prefer to blame the north!
Imagine a state like Bayelsa with less than 3million ppl and trillions of revenue since 2008! Yet nothing to show for it!

Niger Delta would continue to fool itself, with all the moneys they receive until the day the oil looses value and attention gets shifted towards something else.

If them leave me with all these Niger delta stupidity I go stop all these privileges, because obviously it hasn't yiedled any reasonable benefit, look at Bayelsa and Delta with all the moneys they receive they look like non oil producing states, if not worst.

Look at Rivers state, with all the moneys they receive instead of developing themselves they developed crime and cultism.

That is one major reason why the Niger Delta will remain the way it is. Looting and stealing everyday by those in charge or connected. The rest is looted by state government officials and we complain daily of hardship. Monies that would have been used to provide infrastructures looted by individuals and siphoned abroad to strengthen the economies of developed countries. Truly the African is very savage. No mercy on themselves. South Africa was lucky to be developed by white people. That is why it is a beautiful country today.
You have poverty all over the place in the Niger Delta following decades of looting, yet some of the people are rooting for independence.
How can independence guarantee infrastructural developments in minds and characters that have been absolutely polluted with corruption and stealing?
