Corps Member Opens First Library in Government Science School Lokoja, Donate Two Hundred Text Books

Towards the transformation and development of reading culture amongst students and attaining a better height, a Corps Member in Kogi State, Beckley Seun Samuel with state code number: KG/18C/0039 recently donated a library, stocked with 200 books to Government Science Secondary School Lokoja Kogi state.

According to Seun, the project was part of his personal community Development service project targeted towards birthing excellent technical science students, who will in turn transform their mental pictures to meaningful development. Oluwaseun said, “the project will aid concentration, increase interaction and motivate students to involve a dynamic approach to learning thereby encouraging personal development through reading of books both within and outside academic world”.

He added that, being a lover of education, he was determined to ensure at least the students have the opportunity to read a text book. He added that he was able to buy two hundred text books in the library with some seats for comfortability. He urged the students to make good use of the library and improve on their academic performance. He also urged the school to lead by example by ensuring they stock more text books in the library and always encourage the students to read them.
Seun believes that the project will tremendously develop the student’s learning capacity, mindset and practically and theoretically equip them effectively. “buying a text book nowadays looks almost like an impossible mission for parents due to the fact that most parents are not been paid as civil servants and likewise the difficulty in survival, so they find it difficult purchasing a textbook to aid the learning process of these students. In this wise, I thought it’s worthwhile to investment in building a library in the school which will afford these less priveledge ones the opportunity to develop their minds through reading of available materials from the library.

The state Coordinator of NYSC, Kogi state who was represented by the head of CDS Pastor Akiola James expressed gratitude to the Corps member for the knowledge to execute such a giant project; stressing that now students can be told to go to the library and read which was never said in the school prior to the execution of the project.
