A week after the Senate cleared President Olusegun Obasanjo of any wrong-doing in the PTDF, the dust raised on the expenditure of the agency has refused to settle. Chairman of the Senate Review Committee on PTDF, Senator Ibrahim Tsauri has again asserted that the Committee found out that President Obasanjo could not account for $500M (about N65billion) of the PTDF fund he personally administered.

Senator Tsauri made this revelation on Thursday 17th May, while featuring on Vision FM, Abuja daily interactive interview programme called Burgami (8-9am).

Tsauri also said the Committee cleared Vice President Atiku Abubakar on the alleged deposit of $125million in ETB and TIB because his approval for the investment of the money was in accordance with the laws setting up the PTDF and that the investment yielded billions of naira in interest to the government. He also said they only established that the Vice President did not get Presidential approval for the investment of additional $20M and not that there was any case of embezzlement in the matter.

According to Senator Tsauri the Committee found out that President Obasanjo operated a PTDF Reserve Account without the knowledge of the Management of the PTDF.The Committee recommended the closure of the account, a recommendatuion the Senate accepted although it fell short of affirming that President Obasanjo acted illegally in the operation of the secret account.

Speaking on the controversial payment of N250Million to President Obasanjo’s personal lawyer for the registration of a company, he said the Committee established that only N20Million of the money was paid to the corporate Affairs Commission by the lawyer
