NIGERIA AT 59: OUR GREATNESS LIES IN OUR ABUNDANT HUMAN CAPITAL RESOURCES.

Today, I felicitate with fellow Nigerians on this auspicious occasion of our 59th independence Day. This day refreshes our enthusiasm and rejuvenates our resolve to work for the progress and prosperity of our motherland. It also inspires us to serve our country and raise our flag which symbolizes our hopes and aspirations, even higher. It is indeed a time for celebration as our hopes and aspirations bore fruit on this day.

October 1st represents a watershed moment in our history; an ideal time for both stock-taking and celebration. This historic date was the sum total of the contribution of our founding fathers occasioned by their passionate belief that Nigerians deserve the freedom to determine their own internal affairs and destiny, as individuals and as an independent country.

Nigeria is destined for greatness and so we have every reason to celebrate considering our inbuilt capacity to surmount challenges. There is much to remind us of our capacity to achieve excellence; our history chronicles our people’s record breaking achievements in various fields of human endeavor.

This year’s Independence day should serve as a day of renewing faith in our Country irrespective of our political or religious differences. Each of us has a duty to build the bright and prosperous Nigeria which we dream. Today, let us remember the values that inspired the founding fathers of our great nation. Let us use this occasion as an opportunity to forge ahead unitedly and find solutions to our shared challenges. Today, let us reflect on our achievements with pride and hope, knowing that despite the challenges, setbacks and despair, the combined efforts of dedicated and hard working Nigerians have laid a foundation on which we can build a brighter future for our country.

The future of this nation is embedded in the creativity of our people, the dedication to quality service and our productive use of the abundant human and natural resources bequeathed to us by God and nature. Today, I enjoin each and every one of us not only to exhibit those attributes that unite us as a nation, and promote religious tolerance.

Let us recommit to achieving a prosperous future for the Nigerian people and believe that no matter how impossible the dream may appear, we can achieve it.

May God grant our prayers for love, peace and unity and the bond of brotherhood in our nation. Happy Independence anniversary!

Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Ubah.
