What offense did we commit in Nigeria to deserve this kind of backward treatment.

This is why Buhari said everybody should be law abiding.

Most Nigerians are just lawless and looking for way to either cheat themselves or cheat the government.

You'll have money to import a luxurious car but you won't want to pay duties or taxes on it.

Customs should jejely auction off the cars.

you will buy a car of 500K then pay duties of about 300K ar u making sense at all...

Good job, keep it up! Illegality must stop in this country! If you'd asked them, they would have bluntly told you the country isn't working...how will it work when you're contributing your fair share of illegality and impunity!!

Someone is afraid of Fraser Suites. This hotel is fast outstripping Transcorp. Just last week during the bankers conference at Transcorp over 90% guests at the event stayed at Fraser Suites

Someone is really worried and trying to bring down this hotel masterpiece

If custom has information about smuggled vehicles they do not need to use a commando style to raid the hotel and wake up guests. Such barbaric approach is designed to tarnish the reputation of the hotel. Neither do they need to barricade the hotel. They could easily go in and seize the vehicles

Leaking this raid to the media is also designed to attack the brand of Fraser. Orishirishi something

What importers pay as duty on cars in Naija is less than 40% of the sum of buying and shipment cost, unless if you are bringing in bullet proof car that will attract more.

Funny...

Customs have the right to impound regardless of where the vehicles are EVEN AFTER CROSSING THE BORDERS...The question we should be asking is how did the vehicles pass through the borders in the first instance if we have an effective custom service?

In most cases, it is the same custom service that allows smugglers to pass through the borders and then turn around to seize same items after collecting huge bribe to allow them pass...

This is why smugglers kill customs anyhow.

Oga if u have been to the border area of Kwara state, den u won't be saying this things u just said. I am not going to ask you to compare others states like Ogun, Lagos, Katsina, Sokoto..... There re places whereby by smugglers we drive into Nigeria wit a toks, till he gets to Ilorin, he will beat all security check points on the road.
U guys really don't know Wat these customs officers go through in the bush. U think its just fun to go work in the border area whereby dey won't give u money for logistics but u hv to obey orders and report to ur duty post?. Not even considering the hazards to encounter wen carrying out your duty.
Customs is the least paid paramilitary job in Nigeria [make ur findings], and u expect officers to use this same salary to take care of themselves in d bush as well as their family [this is why dey compromise sometimes]. I hv seen an officer who told me dat to get to his duty post from his house, he spends nothing less than 15k just to leave Abuja and travels to his place of assignment. The journey na 2 days. Not to even mention d enduring hours on bike through d bush [3hours on bike].

My point here is dat, d whole system has been like dat right from time. We have a lot of porous border. That's why most of dis smuggling activities is difficult to contain. As the saying goes "e get who dem go put sugar for him mouth wey go spit am out"?.

Indeed the style may be questionable but the intent is noble. If Fraser Suites is willingly harbouring smuggled goods it tarnishes itself.

If management is oblivious of the infraction then it should sack its security staff for collusion. It does itself no favours by blowing this out of proportion because terrorists will be watching and wondering at how easy it could be to smuggle more devious items into a so called top rated hotel seeking to trump the Hilton.

Oho dai!

Pay duty if you dont want the embarrassment.

People like you who support non payment of duties are the reason Nigeria is not progressing.

If you donot know what is right or wrong, you actually do not deserve to have a voters card in the first place.

Truth be told, Customs are not responsible for policing our borders. Our customs are under the ministry of Finance, the fact that they carry guns is for anti smuggling prevention but the real border control should either be under the ministry of defence or interior.

Nigeria needs an armed border control.

“Sending armed men to invade a hotel outside their jurisdiction and potentially create a diplomatic incident by violating every international protocol to hold foreign diplomats hostage while demanding for vehicle paperwork.

All of this to...boost local production...

Hmmm! So the hotel should start requesting for custom duty papers of their guests' cars abi? I agree the hotel reputation is being targeted.
