Indications have emerged that the Federal Government may be experiencing some hiccups in the build up to the December deadline for the completion of the Lagos-Ibadan railway project.

In as much the contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) has completed laying the standard gauge rail tracks from Iju-Ishaga axis of Lagos state to Moniya area in Ibadan, construction of tracks to link the Apapa ports still remains a mirage.

This owing to obstructions of oil pipelines but the worst is the flourmill factories along the rail track, which stakeholders have said would cost the Federal Government huge sums for payment of compensations to relocate the factories.

An official of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC), who spoke to The Guardian, lamented the paltry sum allocated for the project.

Why can't FG gather all the profs in road/ construction Engineering and make them head these projects whilst they are being runned by local firms. You close borders to promote local produce but you don't see the dangers in always bringing in foreign experts. Double standards.

It's simple.... If you have failed to plan, you are simply planning to fail...are they telling us that those flour mills were not there at the initiation or planning stage of the project??

In essence, it cannot be completed in December 2019 anymore.

Are they not aware of these challenges before picking December 2019 as completion date?

Does that mean the survey wasn't done before they started construction?

Didnt they factor all these before embarking on the project. At least the pipe line and factory did not just appear recently on the designed route of the rail track. Excuses!

The federal government can still do something about it before December.

Egbon you spoke my mind, the pillars in some bridges constructed in the 1980's in lagos were made very high because of obstruction (water, swamp, houses, industries, motorparks etc). The architects saw those barriers during the design and factor ways early enough to avoid them.

It's not a Paltry sum, the money budgeted for the project is huge and it's borrowed from China.
It has been prooved by Nairalanders that the Chinese are cheating us when compared to the cost in other African countries with worse terrain.

What is rail line doing in Moniya in Ibadan?

Guardian and junk journalism.

I’m supposed to believe a journalist or paper that can’t do ordinary google search to know that Moniya is not even anywhere close to the Ibadan rail line.

Believe this junk at your own peril.

And your competent brother Goatluck Jonathancould not do a single project in the South West for the whole six years that the ineffectual buffoon was president beside looting the treasury.

Our old foolishly uncle who lives in Ota farm and sleeps with his sons' wives too cannot point any thing he did for South West except the few meters Sango flyover, yet the idiot keeps writing senseless letters.

If not that Lady youths like you lack common sense, you would have known that on several occasions, projects plans change during execution.

Why are you even concerned, is the project in your Biafran Republic of Crimes and Drugs?

What is this rubbish and useless excuses, was no survey carried out to map the route of the rails and determine whatever obstruction will encountered and what strategy to be implemented in overcoming such. Another abandoned project like many looming. Sad

if a project is planned very well and taken all this into consideration there will be no obstacles now and you don't need to blame the past again and let's look forward....we voted those guys out of power bcoz of this so we know...it is those we vote in should make us proud

it is only unsuccessful people that blame others for their mistake

A serious government that knows what it's doing would have considered those factories and pipelines in its initial plans. They didn't appear there overnight.

Besides, the December deadline was never possible in the first place. It was just another ploy to win votes.

Could we say they're already booking excuses for failure?

But didn't they see this coming during the mapping out of the project and plan on it before now, can there be another route as option when making the map. A nation without foresight, because this should have been known far years back that a factory shouldn't be in the location if the country has vision.
