The Foursquare Gospel Church has reacted to the publication of a documentary by BBC Africa Eye exposing sexual harassment of students across public tertiary institutions in West Africa.

Dr Boniface Igbeneghu, a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Arts, UNILAG, and former sub-dean, was caught on camera trying to force himself on a journalist who posed as a 17-year-old admission seeker.

The lecturer was the head pastor of a Foursquare Gospel Church in Lagos.

The Church, in a statement released on Monday dissociated itself from the SexForGrades allegation labeled against its Pastor, stating that it has zero-tolerance policy on sexual harassment.

“The attention of the leadership of The Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria has been drawn to a video clip trending on social media platforms titled “Sex for grades: Undercover in West Africa Universities - BBC News" wherein a lecturer in University of Lagos named Dr. Boniface Igbeneghu also described as a pastor in Foursquare Gospel Church was allegedly involved in sexual misconduct with some female students of the university.

The general public is hereby informed that as a holiness and Bible-believing Church, we do not condone such heinous and unscriptural act among our ministers.

We totally dissociate ourselves from the purported conduct of Dr. Igbeneghu and promise to take appropriate measure as soon as the ongoing investigation is concluded.

Meanwhile, the pastor in question has been asked to step down from all ministerial assignments.”

Earlier on Monday, a 13-minute documentary published by the British public service broadcaster was centered on the University of Lagos (UNILAG) and the University of Ghana.

Mordi, in the documentary, said she too was a victim of sexual harassment during her days in the university.

She said her team took the initiative due to the clamour to expose lecturers in the habit of sexually abusing students.
