Lagos State College of Nursing graduates 83 students

The Lagos State College of Nursing, Midwifery and Public Health Nursing (LASCON), Igando has graduated 83 students, comprising of 51 Nurses and 32 Midwives who successfully completed the mandatory three- year training programme.
The Special Adviser on Education to Governor Sanwo-Olu, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, in his address at the second graduation ceremony of LASCON held at the College grounds in Igando, Lagos, enjoined the graduands to be worthy ambassadors the School and the State, adding that the nursing profession is very crucial to the present administration’s healthcare delivery focus.
Wahab, who was represented at the event by a Director in the Office of the Special Adviser on Education, OSAE, Mrs. Funmilola Olajide, restated the government’s commitment to providing necessary infrastructure and personnel that will transform the institution into a full-fledged College so that LASCON can have the capacity to admit more students.

The Provost of the College, Mrs Oyefunso Orenuga charged the graduands to be patriotic and of good behaviour, saying that attitude, integrity, contentment, hard work and godliness are qualities needed to weather any storm that they may encounter. Orenuga maintained that available statistics reveal that the world would be in need of 800,000 nurses by the year 2025 and that this will provide more employment opportunities for the graduands in private or government settings as they are now certified Registered Nurses (R.N) and Registered Midwives (R.M).

While reminding the graduands of the need to be patriotic in the discharge of their duties, Orenuga implored them to develop skills that meet the needs of the Nigerian society.
“Patriotism should start with the question of what can I give back to the institution that trained me, as well as the State that spent so much to educate me,” she stated.
Recall that the Lagos State College of Nursing, Midwifery and Public Health Nursing, Igando was established as a result of the educational and professional nursing services required to meet the health needs of the large and growing population of Lagos.
