Ekiti state Governor, John Kayode Fayemi, has granted clemency to 18 prisoners in the Nigerian Correctional Services facilities in Ado Ekiti and Kirikiri Maximum, Lagos State.

This was made known in a statement by the Attorney-General & Commissioner for Justice, Olawale Fapohunda.

The statement revealed that the 18 prisoners were granted clemency by the state governor after the Ekiti State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy considered 50 applications for clemency at its third sitting.

The applications of these beneficiaries were said to have been granted because they individually demonstrated the potential to turn their lives around.

Kind gesture from the Governor.
Except it would have been more appropriate if our leaders extend such kind gesture to our dear nation which has been held in prisons since dedaces.
The greatest clemency the government and any leader can grant to a prisoner is the one granted to our dear nation which has greatly relapsed and is near collapse if the needed attentions are not given.

As for the prisoners granted freedom, it's yet unclear to me if i should congratulate them or not. I hope it doesn't eventually turns out, they are only being freed from one prison into a larger one.

Some people who have gone through this process in the past eventually retraced back their steps to their formal confinements.

For now, let's just hope eating watery beans under the bridge is better than eating watery beans inside the prison.

Ado Ekiti and Kirikiri...

Fayemi running things in both prisons? I thought the governor's power ends in his state in terms of clemency undecided Please, let our learned colleagues explain how he extended it to Kirikiri undecided

Well, if you say so!
We have seen some ex convicts released before, that now used their prison experience to terrorise peoples.

But I believe governor must have done some psychological evaluation of those released. It shall be well!!!!
