The Month of October every year is reserved globally for awareness on Breast Cancer. The reasons for dedicating a full month to Breast Cancer awareness, are not farfetched. Breast Cancer is the commonest type of cancer in women across the globe. While, men also have Breast Cancer, its occurrence is rare.

October 13 is set aside in the month of Breast Cancer awareness to draw attention to the menace of the scourge, by encouraging women to go out or post picture of themselves on social media without wearing Bras with the hashtag #NoBraDay. Over the years, observing this day has been associated with a lot of frenzy and social media buzz especially from men. This may not be unrelated to the fact that, the Breast is a sex symbol, and pictures of different shapes of breast without bra, clinging to fabrics, will not doubt cause excitement or start a conversation.

However, the main aim of #NoBraDay should not be lost in the frenzy nor abused by participants,in order not to be misrepresented as a way of sexualizing women but to draw attention to the debilitating and life threatening menace called Breast Cancer.

Removing the Bra is symbolic, because it is prelude to Breast Examination. So, don't just remove the bra and show us your well formed Breast; Examine it and encourage others to do same. Guys,don't just follow the hashtag ogling at soft breasts and pointed nipples. Encourage your female friends and loved ones to do Self Breast Examination and report to a Health facility if they observe any lump or abnormalities.

Together, we can join hands to eradicate Breast Cancer from our World. It begins with a simple Breast Examination.
