The Red Devils are currently languishing in 12th place in the Premier League after a dreadful start to the new season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

And they are doing so in having a record wage bill. As per Swiss Ramble, who published the numbers after United released their figures from last season, the club's yearly wage bill is a staggering £332 million.

There's been a massive £100 million (43 per cent) increase in the last three years, with the likes of Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, David De Gea and Alexis Sanchez all on huge wages.

League leaders Liverpool are second with a wage bill of £264m per year, with champions Manchester City in third place with £260 million.

But while the aforementioned two clubs have had the success to go with their hefty wages, the same cannot be said for United in recent years.

Since Sir Alex Ferguson left after delivering a 13th and final title in 2013, the club have failed to win the league since. David Moyes' spell ended in disaster, while Louis van Gaal's FA Cup win in 2016 wasn't enough for him to stay on.

United fans had hope that Jose Mourinho would bring back the good times to Old Trafford when he won the League Cup and Europa League in his first season at the helm but the Portuguese was given the boot in December 2018 after not cutting it.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer got United playing again to begin with when he came in as interim manager but United have just won five of their last 23 games and are now two points off the relegation zone after eight games this season.

Their recent woes have caused Chevrolet, the club's current shirt sponsors since 2014, to end their agreement when it expires in 2021 - with the American company feeling as though they have been 'massively overpaying' without getting much in return.

Money isn't a good motivator after all...

Since they don't know how to spend their money, they should start paying ball boys at least £100k per week...

In my opinion they do just about the same work as Lingard and the rest which is running around...

How the hell did a club sell 20 to 25 goal a season striker and keep strikers who defenders can compete with for highest goal scorer...

Ferdinand, Scholes, and the two Neville especially are to be blamed... They made out the trio of Pogba, Lukaku and Sanchez culpable anytime United lost.

They never had issues with the English contigents who were mediocre at best and it played right psychologically into the skull of varsity football coach in charge.

Too much money is worrying the club. It is even nothing compared to when Rooney and Zlatan were there. Those guys earned 300k each togeda with pogba. Not forgetting that De gea was the highest paid goalkeeper too. Players like Van persie, schweinsteiger, di maria, falcao to mention a few, have also enjoyed from the bounty. Good thing is that they make a lot of money as well, so going broke is very far from it. They make way more than they spend
