On October 15, 1987 about 4 p.m. GMT, words came from Burkina Faso about an ongoing coup d'etat against President Sankara, an inspiring leader who gave hope to millions of Africans.
First we did not believe it. Some said he survived the coup. Later some radios announced one of Sankara's supporters, Captain Bukary Kabore, AKA The Lion of Boukimebe' , was marching to Ouagadougou to rescue .
No-one could speak, everyone was holding their breath. After waiting over and over, we learned that things were NOT going well at all. The plotters had the upper hand , and Captain Bukary and his men were forced to
retreat to Ghana. The day was doomed.
