Why do we take photos of security vehicles donated by the police? After photo ops, the vehicles are manned by illiterate men, and become rickety a few months later. Dangote, Innoson, and other friends of government will donate new ones, The Senate will approve new vehicles, the State governments will donate a few more, yet security will get even worse.

Contrary to popular opinion, the problem of the Nigerian police is not mere transportation - it goes way, way beyond that.

Why do we attend church so much, when we do not really like God - we are only scared of him. We have so much of God on our mouths and lips, yet so little of him on the hands, or in the heart. If God is good and kind, and his followers are taught to be like him, why does Nigeria taste so bad? Why do our comedians sound so angry and frustrated, why are their jokes so full of pain and bitterness? We've learned to use laughter, not just for medicine, but for survival, to escape the horror daily living can be.

Why?

You know when you turn off a fan, and it keeps spinning, slowly, slowwlly, very slowly, then it stops. Nigeria is going slowwly. People are bailing, new Nigerians are showing up in foreign countries, with crayfish in their bags, and 'thank God' in their mouths. Leaving Nigeria is like waking up to a pleasant dream - government officials treat you nicely, the police really wanna help you. Far away from the Goodlucks and Generals, the fields of your mind will find good waters.

2020 is less than twelve weeks away, and Nigeria approaches it proudly, boisterously, the poverty empire of the world. It's home to a few million mad people, who hold old Jewish tales to heart. They've controlled their children to seek help from God, always, everytime, today, yesterday, to remain the same. Simple questions demand simple answers, but to the Nigerian mind, the more mysterious, the better. Wetin man sabi, when God dey?

So ignorance wears a divine clothing, proudly prancing about in unabashed mockery of all that it can not comprehend. Ignorance holds a nation captive, drinking its people daily. 250 million people can not figure out how to keep power steady, to light their hospitals and their roads. All the big lights are in their stadiums and churches, for God is the Light of the world.

Why? Why do we?
