I Don’t Look for Records, They Look for Me, Says Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo has lost count of the number of records he has broken, Portugal forward said after scoring the 700th goal of his career during a 2-1 defeat by Ukraine on Monday night.

“The records come naturally, I don’t look for them, the records look for me,” he told reporters after scoring his 95th goal for his country.
“It’s not for anyone to reach this number and I thank everyone, teammates, colleagues, coaches and everyone who helped Cristiano become the player that he is.”

Queen’s College Rewards Outstanding Teachers

As part of activities to mark this year’s World Teachers’ Day, Queen’s College, Yaba has rewarded teachers who distinguished themselves in the service to humanity.

The school rewarded the best teacher for each class- junior secondary two (JS2), JS 3, senior secondary one (SS1), SS2 and SS3. There were also prizes for the most caring teacher, best dressed among the female and among the male teachers, best counsellor, among others.
The prizes ranged from bedside fridges, TV sets, dining set, reachable fans and other consolation prizes of pressing irons for all runners-up. All teachers also got towels as general gifts.

Giving The Girl-Child Voice For Growth

As Nigeria joined the rest of the world to commemorate the International Day of the Girl on October 11 with the theme ‘GirlForce: Unscripted and Unstoppable’, to celebrate achievements by, with and for girls since the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action 25 years ago, some stakeholders have called for peace in all parts of the country, among other prerequisites for the continuous development of the girl-child. Uchechukwu Nnaike, Funmi Ogundare and Segun Awofadeji report.

The International Day of the Girl Child was declared by the United Nations and was celebrated for the first time on October 11, 2012. The celebration supports more opportunities for girls and increases awareness of the inequality faced by girls worldwide owing to their gender.
Since its adoption 25 years ago, more girls have been empowered to move from dreaming to achieving. More girls today are attending and completing school, fewer are getting married.

Minimum Wage: FG, Labour Shift Ground, Negotiations Continue Wednesday

The meeting between the organised labour and representatives of the Federal Government has been moved till Wednesday, Oct. 16, to allow for sorting out of all grey areas of contention.

A top Labour Official, who pleaded anonymity, hinted that the organised labour had shifted its earlier position from 29 per cent to 25 per cent for grade levels seven to 14, while for levels 15 to 17 now 20 per cent, which was earlier 24 per cent.

The Federal Government has made its earlier position to shift from levels seven to nine to 17 per cent and levels 10 to 14 at 15 per cent.
It also shifted that of levels 15 to 17 to 12 per cent.

IMF Lowers Global Growth Forecast For 2019

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has lowered its global growth forecast for 2019 to 3 per cent in the newly-released World Economic Outlook (WEO) report, down 0.2 percentage point from its estimation in July, reported Xinhua news agency.

Noting that this is the slowest pace since the global financial crisis, IMF chief economist Gita Gopinath wrote in a blog post that “growth continues to be weakened by rising trade barriers and increasing geopolitical tensions.”
