Today, we will be looking at 3 common mistakes to avoid in social media marketing.

1. Too much brand promotion: We all know that the main reason for bringing your business to social media is to promote your brand. However, the way and manner in which you do so can go a long way in determining if your goal will be met. Instead of littering your page with brand information, take time to find and curate content that your followers will value. Therefore, you can follow a routine of posting one promotional post for every 3 non-promotional posts. Non-promotional posts include how-to guides, rehearsals, infographics, an image showing your work culture and values, e.t.c.

2. Not targeting your audience: The mistake of not targeting the right audience is very dangerous because it only means you will be shooting in the dark. Every business has it's own unique audience and it's your business as a marketer to find them. Your posts are not going to get engagement if you are not targeting the right audience. So, design an ideal customer profile, and segment the profile into different people based on gender, preferences, countries, industries, e.t.c. (buyer persona).

3. Being loud is equal to getting noticed: It is very difficult to get attention when you are just starting out on social media. So, to be seen some people the go-ahead to post 10 to 20 contents at once (this is mostly done by those in the fashion industry) or writing their caption in CAPITAL LETTERS. This act is known as 'shouting'. In the long run, it will only get your followers angry, and they might end up unfollowing you. Instead, be consistent and persistent. That 10 posts you want to post can be divided into 2 or 3 per day, while you spend time on writing an attractive caption. The secret to getting the attention you desire is not by shouting, but by creating valuable content and knowing how and when to put them out there for your followers.
