Some effective home remedies for male yeast infection includes apple cider vinegar, yoghurt, tea tree oil, garlic, and coconut oil. Yeast infections, also known as thrush is caused by Candida albicans fungus. Though it commonly affects women, but this infection can equally affect men too. Apart from the genitals, yeast infections can also develop in your skin, throat, and mouth.

Normally, men and women have a healthy level of Candida yeast in their body. However, when the yeast grows out of proportion, it can cause diverse symptoms. Most men don’t experience severe signs of this infection, but when it occurs, symptoms of male yeast infection may include:

Causes of male yeast infections
The major cause of male yeast infection is carnal contact. Engaging in unprotected sex with a woman who has the condition can expose a man to contracting it.

Also consuming certain type of foods like beer, bread, dairy products, can also expose a man to developing thrush. Though thrush isn’t termed an STI since the percentage of yeast infections transferred this way is considerably low.

What are Home Remedies for Male Yeast Infection or Thrush?
Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar contains antifungal properties which acts against the Candida species of yeast. ACV can topically be applied to the area affected by thrush. Mix apple cider vinegar with water before applying on the affected part so as to avoid it burning you.

Tea tree oil
Tea tree oil contains lots of therapeutic properties including antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiprotozoal properties according to several studies. The antifungal properties of tea tree oil treat yeast infections when applied on and around the head of the male organ. Dilute tea tree essential oil in a carrier oil like olive oil before using it.

Yogurt
Yoghurt is a natural probiotic that helps promote positive bacteria growth to fight off candida or thrush. Apart from consuming yogurt, you can also apply plain yogurt directly to the affected area.

Garlic
Garlic contains antifungal and antibacterial properties. When garlic was compared with clotrimazole in a study, it revealed that garlic reduced side effects with same healing potency as the cream commonly used to treat yeast infection. You can add garlic to your diet daily.

Coconut oil
Coconut oil contains lots of health and cosmetic benefits. A study published in 2017 indicated that coconut oil was highly effective against Candida albicans.

Does Salt water Work For Male Yeast Infection?
It isn’t advisable to use warm salt water to wash your male organ when experiencing a thrush or male yeast infection. It can worsen the condition and expose the sensitive tissues to more harm. Instead of washing with warm salt water, you can use prepare of solution of white vinegar and water. Dip a tissue or small cloth into this solution and wipe the affected part at least thrice daily.

Alternatively, you can apply plain unsweetened yogurt twice daily on the affected part. You can also open and pour Acidophilus capsules on your foreskin.

Yes, men can take Fluconazole to treat thrush or male yeast infection. Men with recurrent yeast infection or men who can recognize the immediate symptoms of yeast infection can treat it with over-the-counter topical antifungal cream. In severe cases, men with yeast infection can take Fluconazole (Difflucan), as long as it is recommended by a doctor.
