[s]Afonjas, think that from Onitsha to Asaba is like long hrs drive like from one state to another state, not knowing that Onitsha is more closer to Asaba than Awka, Nnewi and other major Anambra towns. Similar to Aba and Ikot Ekpene[/s].

When you are in sorrow it's best you maintain decorum.

So far, on all threads pertaining to this issue, I'm yet to see any tribe gloat at your misfortune.

Rather than running your mouth like a faucet this should call for sober reflection and introspection.

No fewer than 40 buildings, ranging from two- storey to four- storey buildings were razed in a tanker explosion in Upper Iweka, Onitsha.
Over 500 lock- up shops were also gutted by the
fire along the Iweka street market leading to
ochanja and Menax market .

The incident was said to have started when a tanker laden with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), otherwise known as petrol, negotiated from the Zik’s roundabout end of Onitsha -Enugu expressway, lost control around Toronto Hospital and veered off the service lane.

This caused the tanker to spill its content and a fire erupted which lasted about 5 hours. The fire spread from Upper Iweka down to Ochanja market (Onitsha South LGA), yet no fire service from Anambra State was sighted, as they reportedly said they don’t have water and the roads are bad for them to come. It was Fire Service from nearby Delta state that came to the rescue, but by then, goods, buildings and other properties worth millions of Naira has been lost to fire.

It is ironical that Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing is a Anambra based, yet the Government of Anambra can not buy fire fighting trucks from them and station men of the Fire Service near major markets and other developed areas of the State.

God!!! This is serious. What a lost to the people.

I pray no soul should be lost.

Asaba fire service always deploy to Onitsha whenever there is a fire outbreak. It has been their tradition right from the mbadinuju era. They see Onitsha as part of their mandate area, afterall a large number of Asaba residents earn their livelihood in Onitsha, so in a way, they are also protecting Asaba's economy.
So you think Delta fire service would deploy to Onitsha if Anambra had an active fire department? Just in case you think it is normal, it isn't.

It should normally be out of jurisdiction and a top level clearance would have been required in saner climes, save it is the situation of a city helping another in distress and rooms for protocols are not duly followed.

Ideally, fire service from another state should not be found putting out fire in another domain.

Anyone who ordered the Delta Fire Service to deploy fire trucks to "help" in Anambra should be sacked immediately. I'm 100% sure if the fire was in their domain, they won't arrive early o! Nonsense and twin city.
When it comes to fire service delta state is trying. If we see truth make we talk. In terms of road and industries delta no dey try

Very shameful I tell you..these Nigerian Governors are totally useless ..if it's saner climes the governor should resign over this

Well, he should...but if he wanted to do his job...he would have to start charging taxes like they do in Lagos.

Lagos has a very good emergency response system, partly because they really charged taxes(to the point that tax adverts were all over the place).

Any Nigerian governor , regardless of party, who tries that is going to get driven out of office. After all, we are poor. Yet the truth is, poverty or no poverty, if we want good enough fire services, we have to pay the type of tax that would fund it, especially as oil price is to low for us to sustain such services.

And another thing, when people build things in this country, they don't take fire safety seriously. What is the Market management doing about fire safety? (Nothing , most likely).

If only we had good roads, maybe this would have been avoidable. Let's ask the government where is all the budgets going to? No security no safety , we as a nation need to start asking questions, they tore us apart tribally , religiously and politically only the wise will understand. God heal Anambra

This sad incident is a screaming testimony to our sovereign imbecility! That a market of onisha status has no functional nearby fire service is a loud proof of our collective stupidity! It also reflects the fact that the claimed Biafran superior intelligence is a hoax and that they too are just the same quotient as the zoo elements they so easily vilify

many don't even know that asaba is closer to Onitsha than even nkpor , talk less of Awka

there is fire service in Onitsha , just that its outdated , they have pushed everything to awka, they now see how difficult it is to come down from awka to Onitsha during emergency such as this

pls note that asaba is 5 mins drive from Onitsha

but in a time like this, it's of no need , Anambra will take all the blame.

This is what happen when you are so concerned about how yoruba run their government and their lands while you desert yours. That is their biggest city without no active firefighter. Fire conviniently razed the city for good 5 hours.

Firefighters had to come all the way from Asaba not Enugu, not Imo.

I hope you ibos learn someday. And if you like, refuse to learn and continue concerning yourself with Yoruba affairs while your cities burn to ashes. Pathetic lots.

If they ask them to dedicate 30 minutes every Thursday for fire drills, they would fight whoever proposes it.

Last last people would learn the hard way.

Big shame to Ndi Igbos, not a single functional fire service in Anambra state. The annoying thing is that instead of Igbos to face their own problems and find ways to solve them, na Tinubu, Yoruba land and politics be there problem. RIP to those that lost their precious life in the incident and God will help restore those that lost their source of livelihood.

Federal fire service could work anywhere across the nation. Federal fire service in Delta State could be called upon to handle this as thiers is a federal job not just a state thing.

Problem is, they seem invisible. (No where to be found).

This is the truth... most markets are deathtraps... at times if you see people running you will just start running too not knowing what the running is for

Even if they get officials to regulate for Health and Safety they will either start taking bribes or market guys will get together to intimidate and drive them out
