The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele yesterday justified the proposed move by the federal government to increase the value added tax (VAT), which is currently at 5 per cent to 7.5 per cent. He said the government was apparently left with no other option than to raise taxes to meet its obligations- amidst criticisms over the country’s rising debt profile as well as the burden to service such debts.
