The Libyan National team (female) was once a very strong team in Africa, Algeria was in this year's tournament, Tunisia is also another, so you need to check your facts before springing up threads, google is your friend, i think female football in Africa started in 1997 (could be wrong).

but female football start as far back as 1990 remember the falcons went to the 1991 world cup

China 91 was the first female world cup we went to. I still recall Chioma Ajunwa (the olympic long jump Gold medallist) was part of that team

Actually there was. . . Sweden 1995 which was won by Norway. Germany, USA and China finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively.

Nigeria was also at that competition and we got an 8-0 drubbing from Norway in our first match, played a 3-3 draw with Canada in the second and lost narrowly 2-3 to England in our last match.

We haven't missed a FIFA Women Competition at any level (Senior, U-20 and U-17).
