CHARITY: ORGANISATIONAL COLLABORATION VITAL FOR SOCIAL IMPACT SAYS SEINYE LULU-BRIGGS

Chairman Board of Trustees of the O. B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation, Dr. (Mrs) Seinye O. B. Lulu-Briggs has said collaboration among charity and interventionist organisations was necessary for the effective social impact of charity causes. She made this known during a sensitization programme on Cervical and Breast Cancer by Preventive Healthcare Initiative and jointly sponsored by the O. B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation.

Represented by Mrs. Ineba Tongkam, the Coordinator of Programmes of the O. B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation, Dr. Seinye Lulu-Briggs while commending the collaboration between Preventive Health Care Initiative and the O. B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation in working to embark on free breast and cervical screening of 1,000 women called for more partnerships among interventionist organisations to achieve the desired changes in society.

On her part, Dr. (Mrs.) Dorothy Okoh, the Chairperson of Preventive Health Care Initiative (PHI) appreciated the O. B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation for its support and partnership with her NGO to achieve its objective on account of the severity of the ailments.

She stressed that, given the disturbing global statistics that a woman dies from Breast Cancer every 68 seconds and from Cervical Cancer in every 2 minutes, with 70% of the incidents occurring in developing countries, it became necessary to embark on aggressive sensitization and screening programmes to detect and treat the ailments before they degenerate to deaths.

The sensitization workshop, which had as its theme: Let’s Make It Pink & Teal, held at the Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic and drew participation among women from all walks of life.

The O. B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation celebrated its 18th Anniversary Celebration in September by sponsoring 100 Free Fibroid Surgeries for indigent women in partnership with University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital and the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital.
