Federal Government officials in about 553 ministries and agencies including the Office of the President and that of the Vice- President are set to spend N 3.4 bn on games and inter- agency sport competitions in 2020.
The PUNCH reports that although the fund is meant for sport competitions among agencies , about N 113. 5m was set aside for sporting activities in 117 foreign missions with the embassy in Kiev, Ukraine , earmarking the highest at N8. 6m for sporting activities.
The information is contained in the 2020 budget proposal submitted to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari .
The State House set aside N 30. 1m for sporting activities while the Office of the Vice-President set aside a separate N5. 4m for the same activities .
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission budgeted N24. 7m for sporting activities while the Ministry of Defence and all the agencies under it earmarked N108 .8m .
The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development , which oversees the National Youth Service Corps , the Nigerian Football Federation and the Nigeria Institute of Sports , had the highest budget with N2. 3bn for sporting activities.
The Ministry of Education , including at least 38 MDAs , and secondary and tertiary institutions , budgeted a total of N 145m .
The Ministry of Health , including seven other MDAs , budgeted a total of N 31.3m for sporting activities , while the Ministry of Environment allocated N 16. 8m to sporting activities.
The Ministry of Mines and Steel Development budgeted a total of N 2.6m for sporting activities including N 351, 000 for Metallurgical Training Institute, Onitsha ; N500 ,000 for Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office and Centres; and N 1, 800,000 for Solid Mineral Development Fund Office .
The Ministry of Niger Delta earmarked N 109. 6m as its budget for sporting activities, whereas the Ministry of Works and Housing allocated N 22m for sporting activities .
The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation set aside N16. 7m .
The Ministry of Interior and its agencies budgeted N120m for sporting activities while the Federal Road Safety Corps budgeted N34 .3m .
The National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission budgeted N 5.5m for sporting activities , while the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission allocated N2 m .
For the Fiscal Responsibility Commission , N1. 1m was allocated to sporting activities ; in the Independent Corrupt Practices and Others Related Offences Commission , N 6. 9m was budgeted; the Code of Conduct Bureau is to receive N2, 040, 000; and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs , Disaster Management and Social Development , N 3,279 ,320 .
The Ministry of Water Resources , along with four other MDAs , budgeted N 8.7m for sporting activities , while the Ministry of Women Affairs earmarked N 4. 2m .
The sports budget for the Ministry of Justice is N 20m .
