Yesterday, Students of the University Of Maiduguri were notified of a sharp increase in both school fees and hostel fees for New and Returning Students. In an ideal situation it is normal, but in the current situations of things, economically, financially and physically in Borno State in particular and the Northeast in general (were most of the students come from), it is not viable to increase school fees at such a time when we are facing a lot of challenges on all front.

1.) Firstly, we ended last session late due to ASUU strike disrupting our Academic Calendar and the holiday was less than a month before resumption earlier this week, most students are on self sponsorship including myself, we have to work very hard during the break doing all kind of legitimate labour to meet up with our fees, with the little holiday, we could barely make half of the fee and now we are greeted with an increase in fees on eve of resumption, this is definitely not fair.

2.) Secondly, Education is the only thing keeping most youths in the Northeast together, Most student will be unable to meet up with the fees and there will be mass dropping out, Frustration and depression will set in and the demon (Boko Haram) we are trying to tame will see an avenue to brainwash youths psychologically and recruit them, and guess what, frustration will make them accept and the cycle continues.

3.) Lastly, you will be denying most of us access to education, our only hope of creating a different and positive Northeast, posterity might not be fair to this new administration in UniMaid.


We are calling on the Federal Government, Borno State Government, HRH Shehu Of Borno, UniMaid Alumni, Well Meaning Nigerians To Come To Our Aid.
