Insurance and its practice in Nigeria has become quite fuzzy and there's little awareness, distrust and lack of efficient Government policy in the Insurance sector. Nigeria's insurance industry, so much is being done at different leadership strata to win the ears and eyes of customers, yet it does seem these actions are repeatedly missing the targets, quite loudly!
Following the fire outbreak in Ochanja main market, Onitsha, Anambra State a lot has been said and nothing is being done. The fire outbreak was as a result of a fuel tanker spilling its contents that eventually burst into flames, scores of people were burnt beyond recognition, houses and most especially markets were razed.
Properties worth millions were lost, as the city did not have a functional fire service department. Looking at charred remains of what's left, the pains, agony and loss of wealth accumulated over years of hard work only to varnish in a minute.
