Hotness of Hands
Most times when you have fever, it causes the temperature of your body to increase, including your palms or hands. However, it may be considered strange when your hands feel hotter than the rest of your body particularly when you are not having fever symptoms.

Burning sensation in your hands can be caused by several factors including erythromelalgia, carpal tunnel syndrome, and fibromyalgia.

In this article we discussed in details the possible causes of hotness of hands and ways it can be remedied.

Possible Causes of Hotness of Palms

Carpal tunnel syndrome
Carpal tunnel nerve is the nerve that travels from your forearm into your palm, which is the carpal tunnel of the wrist. Carpal tunnel syndrome arises when the median nerve (one of the major nerves to the hand), is compressed as it travels through the wrist. Carpal tunnel syndrome can result to hotness of the palms.

Other symptoms associated with carpal tunnel syndrome include:

Burning sensation that moves up your arm
unresponsiveness in your palm and fingers
Itchy sensation in your palm
weakness in your hand muscles
wrist pain or weakness
pain that radiates up your arm
Risk factors for developing carpal tunnel syndrome include:

hypothyroidism
rheumatoid arthritis
injuries to your wrist
unchecked diabetes mellitus
The severity or degree of the pain causes by carpal tunnel syndrome will determined the treatment administered. Several options for treating carpal tunnel syndrome includes:

not remaining in positions that stretches your wrist excessively
using a hand bandage to keep your hand in a nonaligned position
surgery
nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) therapy
corticosteroid injections

Erythromelalgia
Erythromelalgia can be described as a rare disorder in which blood vessels in your hands are intermittently blocked, causing it to become swollen, hot, and painful. Erythromelalgia can lead to extreme warmth or extreme burning sensation in your hands. Erythromelalgia causes your skin to take on a red or purple-coloration, increased sweating and swelling in your hands.

The major causes of erythromelalgia is still vague, but doctors suspect this condition may be linked to dilation or contraction of some blood vessels. When this happens, it affects the flow of blood to your arms and legs.

Erythromelalgia is rarely inherited. Experts also suspected it may be triggered by an underlying condition such as nerve damage, autoimmune disorders, and bone marrow disorders.

Some remedies that can help ease erythromelalgia symptoms include: respond well to cooling techniques, such as putting your hands in cold water. Other treatment options include:

dipping your hands in cold water
elevating your hands to redirect blood flow
avoiding use of warm or hot water
avoiding warm temperatures
topical application of lidocaine creams
medications as prescribed by your doctor, such as antihistamine therapy, calcium antagonists, tricyclic antidepressants.

Fibromyalgia
Fibromyalgia is characterized by pain felt over various places of the body, including the palms and burning sensation in your feet and hands. Fibromyalgia is also linked with generalized fatigue. Other fibromyalgia symptoms include: difficulty concentrating, depression, anxiety, headache, irritable bowel syndrome, and pain in lower abdomen. Fibromyalgia cases can be quite difficult to diagnose. Generally, fibromyalgia may be linked to widespread pain that lasts longer than three months and has no detectable cause.

Treatment options for managing symptoms include:

antidepressant medications
drugs to stop convulsions
medications to relax muscles
Other remedies for easing fibromyalgia symptoms include:

yoga
acupuncture
massage

Hotness of Hands during pregnancy
Some pregnant women may begin to feel hotness inside their palms and the soles of their feet as early as the second month of pregnancy. This hotness of hands during pregnancy may cause the palm to become reddish in color, a condition called palmar erythema. Warm hands during pregnancy is considered normal. Apart from redness, some women may also experience itchiness of the palms. These symptoms should cease after the women gives birth.

Hotness of hands during pregnancy is caused by an increase in estrogen production and increase in volume of blood, which causes more blood to flow to your palms.

Pregnant women experiencing these conditions are advised to avoid the use of scented lotions or harsh soaps. Also, soaking your hands and feet in cold water or holding an ice bag, can help relieve uncomfortable symptoms. Some women find relief by soaking their hands and/or feet in cold water or holding an ice bag for a few minutes a couple of times a day.

Pregnant women with hotness of hands should avoid activities like taking a hot bath, washing dishes, or donning gloves make from wool. Ensure you consult your doctor immediately if the burning sensation or itchiness becomes agonizing.

Can the Use of Laptop Cause Hotness of Hands?
A recent study published in the journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, reveals that chronic exposure to the heat on the underside of a laptop computer can cause the formation of a pinkish skin rash or lesion called laptop skin or erythema. However, researches show that the side effect of the condition is merely aesthetic, and is not serious enough to cause health hazards.

Note that researchers have proven beyond doubt that hours of typing away at a computer is not likely to cause carpal tunnel syndrome. Using the computer keyboard or your laptop for more than 25 hours a week may not likely increase the risk of numbness, tingling, hontness and pain in the hands and arms linked with carpal tunnel syndrome.

Conclusion
The hotness or coldness of your hands reveal a lot about health, to some extent. It is not compulsory for temperature to be consistent all through the body. Warm hands isn’t always a cause for alarm, but it can point to a more severe causal problem.

Consult your doctor if you notice changes in your body temperature that isn’t linked to any known perceptible factor.
